A Person’s a Person
Abortion: You Decide.

On the fifteenth of May, in the jungle of Nool,
In the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool,
He was splashing…enjoying the jungle’s great joys…
When Horton the elephant heard a small noise.
So Horton stopped splashing. He looked towards the sound.
“That’s funny,” thought Horton. “There’s no one around.”
Then he heard it again! Just a very faint yelp
As if some tiny person were calling for help.
He looked and he looked. He could see nothing there
But a small speck of dust blowing past though the air.
“I say!” murmured Horton. “I’ve never heard tell
Of a small speck of dust that is able to yell.
So you know what I think?…Why, I think that there must
Be someone on top of that small speck of dust!
“…some poor little person who’s shaking with fear
That he’ll blow in the pool! He has no way to steer!
I’ll just have to save him. Because, after all,
A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
This excerpt is from a book called Horton Hears a Who written by Dr. Seuss. I find it to bear a striking resemblance to how our society responds to our tiny ones today. Being an active member of the Bound For Life organization, I know the devastating facts and the consequences of abortion. In America about three thousand five hundred babies die from abortion a day, that’s one baby killed every twenty four seconds. I hope that by explaining the inhumanity of this heinous procedure it ignites and encourages you to take up this cause and fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, because after all,
because a person’s a person no matter how small.
The Effects on the Family
Abortion has devastating and lasting effects on the mother of the baby, During the process of research for this speech, I searched many feminist, women’s health web sites and Planned Parenthood, not once do they explain to women that the effect of abortion are far worse than just having the child. According to Heartbeat International, there are many psychological and physical effects on the woman after abortion, such as Complications with other pregnancies, greater risk of breast cancer, and they are five times more likely to have problems with substance abuse. If abortion is supposed to be a NOD to women’s health then why does it seem to be causing health problems that otherwise would not have been there? Many people will argue that abortion is for the health of women but the truth is that, According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, 99 percent of abortions are of personal choice, and only 1 percent of abortions were for hard case issues.
