A Shaky Sense of Freedom
The United States was founded by the people and for the people..All the people.
Not just those who agree and think alike..but for those who disagree as well.
I can see it now John Adams would stand , as the great Lawyer he was, and argue the importance of universal health care and the need for the government to step in and take over where the people failed, in order to insure that everyone is cared for. John Hancock on the other hand would stand on the steps of the capital and speak out against the New Monarchy being created by the White House , or maybe the need for a revolt to reclaim the Court system for the people. In the end they would come together and work at it until they came to an agreement. In the end the room would fall silent as the Great George Washington would step forward and speak. President Washington would address the importance of personal responsibility and the need for the government to remain out of the affairs of the people, but to protect and defend the right s of all men to chose for themselves how they will live and what they will think. He would order all media outlets to give Equal time to all sides of the story and encourage all Americans to Vote and be heard.
George Washington would admit the mistakes of the Past that he and his fellow statesmen had made, allowing slavery to continue unhindered or denying women the right to vote. He would honor us for the achievements we have made in furthering Freedom here at home and around the world. He would be proud of the fact that we overcame all the shortcomings of the past to elect a young Black man to the Presidency. But he would be saddened by the misguided ideals of some who would deny the voice of the people to be heard. Fashioning through media and propaganda a twisted view of freedom that would limit an individuals responsibility to his own freedom and his country. The sense of entitlement would remind him of The British Elite and their attitude of What will my government do for me.
Yes, if the founding father were to return they would feel that the house that they built was a bit shaky on its foundation, and in need of a repair. They would worry that because of the miss guided desires of a few men and women in power that the entire country was being made to suffer. They would see that selfish personal goals were taking president over from the needs of the people.
Their solution would be to have open debate and honest discourse on the problems of the day. I am sure they would chastise the elected officials and demand that they listen to the people and do what is the desire of those who sent them to Washington or risk losing it all.
The shaky state we find ourselves in can be shored up only by a fare and honest debate, one without the established powers shooting down the voices of decent but addressing them directly and resolving any concerns they have. Failure to do this has spawned a generation of even louder voices that call for drastic change. Are these decenters wrong? should they not be allowed to share their views? should they not question the administration and their elected officials? The founding fathers would say NO! They would simply chose their point of view and join in on the debate.

We as a Nation must answer all these questions and more. We have strayed from the path that our Founding Fathers started us down. The Path has not forked or changed , but we as a people have forgotten the reason for the journey. To secure for our families and our children’s children the promise of a home free from tyranny and oppression, a home where they can be free to chose and learn from their mistakes and to make their dreams come true. We must return now to what made this country great. We must allow each other to be free. We must give to each man , women , and child those same freedoms and the same respect that we hope for ourselves. We must stop being Democrat or Republican, Independents or Libertarians, We must once again be Americans and fight for those great ideals of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
