A Solution to Global Warming
The title says it all.
Global Warming taunts us every day, affecting our economy, life, and planet. Global Warming is caused by none other than humans. This phenomenon occurs when CO2 (carbon dioxide) is released into our atmosphere. This buildup of CO2 causes holes to form in the ozone layer. With the ozone layer depleting, more of the Sun’s harmful rays pass through the weakened ozone layer causing a chain reaction of harmful events. The intensified sun rays will cause an increase in temperature instigating glaciers and polar ice caps to melt, more frequent hurricanes, long droughts, and countless species of animals to go extinct. Many small low altitude islands will go underwater because of the rise in sea levels due to glaciers and ice caps melting. If we don’t stop Global Warming soon, the consequences we have already seen will become even more extreme. Shore cities will fall victim to even higher sea levels. People will lose their homes and jobs, and animals will lose their habitats and likely become extinct. Hurricanes will clobber our coast like we’ve never imagined and severely damage homes and habitats worldwide. We must not let this happen to our planet. Future generations of humans, plants, and animals alike will all suffer if we don’t do anything. We need a solution to this crisis.
To help stop global warming, we consumers only need to make a few simple lifestyle changes that reduce carbon emissions and energy usage. First, we need to buy more efficient cars and appliances like efficient long-lasting light bulbs. This isn’t hard to do, won’t take too long, and it will save you tons of money. Second, we need our government to force power plants to run on efficient energies other than coal, gas, or oil which largely contribute to global warming. If we enforce these regulations, the price of electricity will drop sharply and consumers will save $440 billion annually, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists. This difficult to do because it will cost a lot of tax money to invest in the alternative fuels to power the power plants and will take a decently large amount of time. Another important factor in contributing to global warming is deforestation. Trees need CO2 to survive and consume it in large quantities while they produce oxygen. If we cut down trees by the billions, CO2 levels will go off the charts and the ozone layer will decay with increasing rapidity. This will be very hard to accomplish because logging is a very important industry. Enforcing limits to logging will be very hard to carry out and it will leave many people without jobs, so it won’t really be a good idea. Instead, we should plant more trees to counter the menacing effect of deforestation. At this very moment, our ozone layer is depleting and our planet is suffering. This is a difficult problem to solve, but we can stop Global Warming if we all do our part.
