A Super Cheap Way of Transportation

I’m traveling cheaper and faster than most people. I’m using a moped to get to work…

Using a moped to get from A to B has incredible benefits! Unfortunately most pros also have a few cons. Here I’ll give you an idea of what a moped could do for you:

Pros:

  • Fuel efficiency: I often look at cars during traffic jams and see 1 person sitting in each and every one of them. Is it just me or do you think that’s awfully inefficient as well? Having a huge heavy chunk of metal under your butt with a too powerful engine that you won’t be able to use because of cars sitting in front of you. A common car uses about 250% the amount of fuel my moped uses.
  • Speed: Although the top speed of a moped is usually slower than a car, you will make up for it through agility. You will be able to maneuver easily through crowded traffic and traffic jams. Therefore, driving a moped through a city is usually much faster than driving a car.

  • Fun: Driving a moped is much fun, you have more freedom while driving, your vision is much better and will have to pay less attention to traffic due to lower speeds (unless you’re in a city). This way you can enjoy your environment and take some alternative routes from time to time.
  • Taxes and insurance: In most countries, taxes and insurances for mopeds are much cheaper than they are for cars. For instance, I only pay €8,50 a month for my moped insurance and NO taxes! The monthly costs for a car are usually around €80,-….feel the difference? I know I do ;-)
  • No parking issues: You will always be able to park right in front of the door which is awesome! You’ll never have to search for a parking spot ever again!
  • No speeding and/or parking tickets: mopeds are rarely or never checked for speed and they are allowed to park almost everywhere. Say bye bye to your parking and speeding tickets.

 Cons:

  • No roof: During good weather, everything is good. But when it starts raining you better have a raining suit with you! This brings extra luggage and can be considered annoying.
  • No radio: You don’t have a radio at and like you do with a car. Although you can fix this with a few simple earplugs, it’s still less comfortable.
  • No heating: When it’s freezing cold you’ll have to bring suitable clothing which isn’t necessary while driving a car.
  • Less protection: In case of a collision you’ll have less protection which usually means some minor wounds. Fortunately mopeds can’t really drive that fast so usually there’s no real life threat. The upside of this is, repairing a moped is much cheaper than repairing a car.

I love driving a moped since it saves me tons of money each month and is quite fun to do! I hope I’ve given you some motivation to consider driving a moped too! Have fun!
