Abortion: America Gone Wild
The 21st Century is an STD ridden, drunken night at the bar. The cameras are rolling and America is flashing everything she’s got.
Slavery is abolished, women can vote, each sex has proven that they don’t need the other, and now America is searching for something to get her panties into a ruffle over once again. Because after all, if we are not fighting over something, then we are not living up to our “brave,” “free,” “cutting-edge” reputation, are we? Humanity complains about the negative stories in the news, the ever-increasing power of the wealthy , and the downward decline of our youth. Sadly, we would have to give up our “demons” and take the time to care about one another to set a better example in order for things to change; which would be an unpleasant, time-consuming, hard feat to accomplish. But my question is: Do we really want things to change, or do we get a secret thrill out of it all? Because without all the drama and fodder for complaining, we would be forced to slow down and face the fact that deep down we live ordinary lives that didn’t go how we planned. And all the “toys,” wealth, and activities in the world do not change who we are.
Let’s get real- we need the drama and constant change. The only difference between individuals is the level of drama and change that they need. So, where do we draw the line? When does a little “harmless fun” become hurtful, reckless, and all-encompassing? When do our own rights start to bleed over and affect other people’s rights? Someone recently said that because it’s the 21st Century we should allow abortion, claiming a person’s rights should allow them to basically do whatever they wish.
President Obama made abortion legal only because if he didn’t then it would outlaw all abortion no matter the scenario. I believe he made the right decision, because in the cases of rape and incest it was no fault of the mother. Also, there are cases when carrying the baby to full term would be a danger to the mother, even causing her to die. A woman should not have to give up her own life to deliver a baby. But I wish that people would not get it twisted. Abortion is murder, especially after the cells mature to a certain point. It’s pretty much safe to say the embryo will indeed grow into a full human being that can experience pain (even before it pops out the fallopian tube.) People can go to jail for harming a baby inside a mother’s stomach. They can get murder charges, so why is that different when a mother asks a doctor to do it?

Thumbs up! Great social awareness article on the sad realities of the 21st century. I characterize as “The 21st Century Crisis” in a recent song I posted.. Really solid and enlightening article!

Thought provoking. My humble opinion. The only one that counts is the mothers.

Good comparison, “People can go to jail for harming a baby inside a mother’s stomach. They can get murder charges, so why is that different when a mother asks a doctor to do it?”

I agree with some of your insights. A person is free to choose to have sex but they should not be free to harm another when dealing with the consequences of their free choice.
I’m doing a series of articles about abortion and in researching what actually transpires, it becomes apparent that informed consent should be the order of the day.
Mothers should have to watch an actual abortion before deciding if they want to go that route. As a society, we’ve come to believe that it is a routine and safe medical procedure. We have been shielded from the horrifying reality of the unborn being torn limb from limb, from the bloody butchery that it really is.

Nice article indeed. I am we still such people like you with passion and inspiration directed by God himself. It\’s just a matter of true prayer and sacrifice for the whole world to for a while turn to God. This has really fallen apart!

Great article!
I won’t comment on abortion itself as I still haven’t quite figured out where I stand on it. I would like to say a little something on the first paragraph though. It’s long been my opinion that our society is too obsessed with the pain and suffering of others. Walk into any supermarket (in North America at least) and you will find reams of celebrity gossip and tabloid magazines. Why is it that websites like perezhilton are so popular, literally thousands upon thousands of hits a day, when the sole purpose of the site is to let us in on all the dirty little secrets that these normal people, albeit famous, don’t want us to know?
As a society we are so obsessed with pain and conflict that we will do anything to get our fix, including throwing our morals off to the wayside.
Great insight Sweetievee!!

Wow, I am really impressed. This was incredibly well written and shows the depth of your emotional investment. One thing though, if you believe that abortion is murder, then are there really any good arguments for its continued practice?
