Abortion: An Ethical Analysis

The topic of abortion is one of the most controversial subjects when it comes to ethical issues.

Ethical Egoism is a theory that allows us to put our own interests first, it allows us to have a second chance (abortion) should we make a mistake or put the health of ourselves or unborn children at risk. Divine Command theory does the exact opposite, it opens our eyes to a new life, it leads us to believe that morality is based on God and the child was given to us by God. It also allows us to believe that if our child had a deformity or disease, that it was meant to be and it is what makes our child special. It perceives us to believe that abortion would be wrong or immoral because the child was sent to us for a reason. So can abortion be ethical? In my opinion, yes it can. It can be ethical when the choice is not being taken for granted. Is there any “right” theory to believe? In my option, no there is not, we believe as individuals.

In conclusion, my research leads me to believe that while we have many different theory’s to agree or disagree with, abortion is a choice. I feel that when it comes to a decision of this kind, the ethicality of the situation is left only to that individual. As long as the woman is presented with all options and alternatives, and is in the emotional state of mind to make a responsible and rational decision without interference or pressure, then she has the right to choose what she feels is best. Regardless of our own personal feelings or religious beliefs toward abortion, until presented with that decision, I feel that we should not criticize or judge. Woman have rights, one of those rights is abortion.
