Adoption and Gays: An Unbalanced Relationship
A quick essay on the topic of gay adoptions.
Emotional stress on the child, it seems to show up everywhere in this argument. It is not a cliché, but rather an important and undeniable fact. Children with more stress are less likely to succeeded, less likely to thrive, less likely to “fit in”, and are more susceptible to outside negative factors such as alcohol and drugs as a teenager (as proven by a respectable scientific and physiological group, NIDA). Anybody who would adopt a child, knowingly denying these undesirable facts can only be considered very selfish.
Also, when you adopt a child, under normal circumstances, you do it to both help you fulfill your needs, as well as to help out a child. But when gay and lesbians adopt a child, knowing the negative factors, it seems plausible that they are doing it only to fulfill an internal, physiological need. Otherwise, why would they adopt? They definitely aren’t helping out a child.
To conclude, this is not a religious argument, not a political argument, but a moral one. “Some areas of life cannot be legislated for and must be left to individual conscience.”³ A sufficiently large majority of Americans simply find gay parenting ‘wrong’. Maybe it is because of the environment, the “Christian” country that they were born and raised in. Perhaps it is just the unnatural situation of an innocent child having two parents of the same sex. Regardless, it doesn’t matter what the people think, but what the child does. And when a child is being teased, taunted, stressed, and self-conscious of what other people think, as well as less likely to be successful as an adult because of the boy or girl’s childhood, something isn’t right. Gay adoption, isn’t right.
