Advertising – there is nowhere you can hide
The advertising is fueling a whole range of ambivalent feelings in all of us. We hate it, because it always catches up to us and we love it, especially if it is witty, with tasteful humor. The advertisement encourages us to participate in consumption, it arouse our interest, directs attention, information, it persuades, manipulates, entices, and harasses us . To free from his effect is almost impossible.
We live in a consumer society, a society in which the consumption of mass-produced goods is encourages through mass communication.
Advertising has been round since the early centuries, but it has only been the last few decades where they have started to affect the values and opinions of people. Everyday we are bombarded by images of perfect bodies, beautiful hair, flawless skin and ageless faces. These ideas and images are imbedded in our minds. Advertising tells people how to act, look and think, without actually saying that you must be that way. Advertisements with their pristine landscapes, attractive women, and smiling happy elderly suggest that passing can be overcome by consumption.
But why do these commercials entice us over and over again? Why do they promise miracles? Why do we believe in miracles? Because everybody wants a trouble-free, easy life. We can not reach it, but we can watch it on the ads.
Advertising has become a constant influx of stereotypes, laying down the foundations of public image. The question, of course, that these attitudes, goals and ideals how salutary are to the individual and to the society. Some could say without some of the cruel and misleading images, the world would be a lot more opinionated place.
