Against or For Cloning?
This is still debated among scientists.
What are stem cells? Stem cells are unspecialized cells that can form any kind of cell, such as a blood cell. There are two types of stem cells: embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are stem cells in a blastocyst. Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent. That means they are able to differentiate into the germ layers: ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. Pluripotent cells can form over 200 cell types. Adult stem cells are found all over the body. They help to nourish dying cells and repair damaged tissues. They can be found in children as well as in adults. Well, how can they help treat diseases and injuries? “A number of adult stem cell therapies already exist, particularly bone marrow transplants that are used to treat leukemia. Leukemia is cancer of the blood or bone marrow and it is characterized by abnormal proliferation (production of multiplication) of blood cells.” In the future, stem cells are hoped to treat variety of diseases and injure: Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
So, infertility is still a big problem, scientists are trying hard to find many other solutions instead using cloning techniques. Organ transplantation is great for saving lives by using cloning. Cloning stem cells are also very helpful to repair the tissues and cells. All these reasons for cloning humans or others are very important, but you must understand the basic knowledge surrounding this topic before you can explore and learn more about it.
