Al Qaeda is The Evil Empire
by Al Qaeda is an Islamic militant organization that believes that the world can be converted to Islam by a violent struggle against the non believers( Kafirs)
In the eighties the the then US President Ronald Reagan referred to the Soviet Union as the ‘Evil Empire’. That was the time the cold war was on and the main opponent of the USA was the Soviet Union. Then in a bit of short sightedness the CIA and other western agencies propped up a number of Jihadi group against the soviet Union in Afghanistan. One of these groups was As Qaeda which fought the Soviet Union with covert and overt support from the USA.
However over a period of time the Soviet Union has disintegrated and the groups nourished by the CIA have turned on their mentor. This was inevitable as the basis of these groups was the hard line interpretation of Islamic thought that had a war on the decadent society and non believers as a primary goal. The most important of these groups is Al Qaeda, which after some time was headed by Osama Bin Laden.
Al Qaeda is a group that has some attraction to many Muslims who see it as a saviour of purity in Islam. It does not matter to these people that the methods to enforce this ‘purity’ is through terrorist attacks, murders and bomb blasts. The primary enemy of these groups is the ‘decadent United States and its allies. In this India is also roped in as a nation which has a majority of idol worshippers and thus must be fought as ‘Kafirs’ or non believers.
The danger emanating from the Islamic world and Pakistan in particular cannot be underestimated. It is in real terms the evil empire. I dont think Islam condones these activities, but lowering of the guard may well prove fatal for the western world and India.
