Alcohol with Welfare Benefits

Is it even a question of whether or not you should be allowed to buy alcohol with the benefits you receive.

I am on welfare now and attend school from 8-2. I have to wake up at 6:30 every morning. Drinking is out of the quiestion, and as for drugs, I have 2 children that need my attention. The sad truth is that there are people who abuse the system and give the people like me who are trying to become something a bad name.

I have sitten in programs absolutely disgusted by the people in them. There is a split of people that care and people that are just lazy. The sad thing is though that since there are people that do care we are too busy trying to fix our lives to hang around the welfare office fighting for more handouts. Those are the ones that everyone see’s though, the drunks at 2 in the afternoon because I’m too busy getting my kids to defend myself.

I can understand the anger over how this might stereotype people by saying you can’t buy alcohol with your cash benefits, but that money is not for you to get drunk. Don’t tell me you earned it either because if you did you wouldn’t be on cash assistance if you earned it.

I always think of the children. Cash assistance isn’t much at all, I am grateful for it don’t get me wrong, but to blow money on alcohol when your barely making it as it is. The children will suffer. They will get the cheap diapers, no wipes, dirty clothes and lack of decent meals because your trading in the foodstamps for cash. How is that to use the governments money that you don’t work for.
