And The Bad News Continues
Health care?
I just finished an article about my desires for a better new year….so far (just a few hours later), my wishes have been ignored.
I just received a letter from my husband’s health provider telling us that for the first time in several years we will be charged a monthly premium on his coverage. This, of course, follows the notice from our generous (?) Government that we, as social security recipients will NOT be receiving a cost of living raise for TWO YEARS because we obviously make enough to cover all future increases in the cost of living.
Well, dear Government officials, that’s a flat out lie. Not only is the cost of everything going up but now we are paying an insurance premium that we did not have to pay before.
Even if we had received an increase in our social security it would have barely covered the new insurance premium let alone any other higher costs in the coming year. I guess that some ignoramus decided that gasoline, food, clothing, medication, housing and all other necessities that we must pay for will not be going up in price, therefore we will not require compensation to keep up with these higher prices.
Am I bitching a lot, you bet I am. Am I supposed to be able to feed, house and medicate my family, you bet I am. I am supposed to drive to and from the grocery store and the doctor’s office (my usual destinations), you bet I am. Can I do any of the above without a terrible hardship…you bet I CANNOT.
The new year that I was hoping would look brighter and easier to deal with has begun to fade into oblivion and not only will times still be difficult for my family, they will be nearly impossible to tolerate.
Dear Mr. Congressman or Senator, what shall I give up first? Food, medication for an ailing husband with Alzheimer’s, paying my mortgage, car insurance and gasoline? How about you tell me which item you are going to give up or cut back on while receiving the income that I am helping to pay for.
I’d like a refund, Dear sirs and madams……I’d like some of my money back that I gave to fat cats who rewarded themselves with even bigger bonuses, or maybe from your annual salary which is way out of proportion to what I get? I will be waiting for my check…even though I will not hold my breathe.
I have only one recourse Dear sirs and madams, you will not get my vote in the next election and I will do everything in my power to influence as many people as possible to do the same where you are concerned. Maybe, just maybe, I will find candidates who actually care about the American people and how their behavior affects us.
