Animal Testing

How would you feel if someone tested medicine, cosmetics, lotion, food and other things on you?  How would you feel if someone force-fed you things that didn’t belong in your body?  Well, these are just some cruel things scientists are doing to helpless animals to improve modern day science.  Animal testing, I believe, is animal cruelty, because we are using innocent animals to try to make human lives better.

This horrific act that scientists are performing is called animal testing. Animal testing facts don’t lie.  Innocent animals are being tested on every day.  We are abusing mice, dogs, cats, monkeys and other creatures to improve our lives.  Animal testing is wrong and should be prohibited.

I believe that finding cures for cancer and making humans healthier is very important. But, I do not think that animal testing is the right way to discover cures.  There are better ways for finding cures for things than testing animals.  For example:  People or animals that are already dead can be tested.  This way, there will be no pain involved and we will not have to worry about anything or anybody dying.  There are other methods that are more efficient than testing animals.

Animal testing is a cruel act.  People get arrested all the time for mistreating and abusing their pets. In my opinion, animal testing is the same as animal abuse.  If the public knew about what scientists really do in labs, I believe that animal testing would be prohibited.  Michael Budkie, from Stop Animal Exploitation Now, states, “If the American Public had all the facts about what’s happening in animal labs, labs would be closed.”  Pets need love and attention, and that’s exactly what scientists are not giving them.  Scientists keep the dogs and other animals in small, dark cages and rooms.  They perform surgery on perfectly healthy animals.  They purposely inject diseases into the animals, just to see what the effects will be.  If scientists are working with dogs, some labs will take out the dogs vocal cords so they don’t have to listen to the dogs’ bark.  Frankie Trull from Natural Resources Defense Council, states, “Animals are the best possible models we have short of humans, and experiments on people is not expectable.”  These are just some awful things scientists perform on innocent creatures that have the right to live.

Yet, after all the gruesome things scientists do to animals in animal testing, there is a side that is pro animal testing.  These people are for animal testing and believe that testing on animals will help find important cures for humans.  They believe that finding a cure for cancer is more important than giving up a life of an animal.  Yes, I believe that finding cures for diseases is very important, also.  But animal testing is not the way to find those cures.  Animal testing is a cruel thing, and these poor animals deserve better.

Testing on animals is, in my opinion, the worst way to find cures for diseases because animals are dying everyday from being tested. Anita Roddick, from Animal Testing Cosmetics, says, “I don’t think violence works at any level.” What makes me angry is that scientists are purposely doing this to the animals.  Animals deserve love and care, not needles and diseases.  So I hope, that someday, people will truly know what scientists do to helpless animals, and testing on animals will someday be prohibited.
