Anniversary to 26/11 Attack
One year after India faced worst terror attack in Mumbai.
It is almost a year when India faced the worst terror attack in Mumbai. The attacks began on 26th November and lasted until 29th November, killing over 170 and injuring hundreds. The 2008 Mumbai attacks were coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across the city at prominent places like Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Oberoi Trident, The Taj Palace and Tower, Leopold Café, Cama Hospital, Nariman House, Metro Cinema. All sites were secured by Mumbai Police and security forces by the morning of 28th November except Taj Palace. India’s National Security Guards put an end to the attacks at Taj Palace on 29th November.
On first anniversary of Mumbai Union Home Minister of India P Chidambaram will visit the city to inaugurate a martyrs’ memorial. A Suraksha March (Security Parade) of Police and various security agencies has also been organized from Gateway of India to Girgaum Chowpatty. Idea Cellular (Telecom Giant) has also come up with ‘Talk for India’ initiative. Idea plans to donate all the revenue generated from calls on 26th November between 8.36 PM to 9.36 PM IST towards purchasing better safety gear for the police force. Punjab Youth Congress will observe the anniversary by remembering and paying homage to the martyrs by organizing District Level Programmes under the name ‘Assin Nahin Bhule’ (We didn’t forget). The 26/11 Terror Case is also to conclude on first anniversary of the attacks. The prosecution is all set to wind up the case in a special court on this day. Ajmal Kasab, the only attacker captured alive is facing trial along with two Indians, Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed. While Kasab faces charges of multiple murders, others are charged with conspiracy. The court in view of the evidences and statements would give verdict.
