Are Men Inherently Incestuous?

Last Summer, there was this hard to believe story of Joseph Fritzl who became so crazy as to incarcerate his own daughter into a cellar and produced with 7 children under his own roof where he lived with his wife all their 30 or so years of marriage. This story left me thinking very deeply as a man myself; are men inherently incestuous? It is all a well known fact that when Joseph Fritzl was arrested last summer, he had completely enslaved his daughter to a point where she could not stop him-she had accepted her fate with the father. Her own 19 year old daughter begotten by Joseph Fritzl had become of age she was being considered by Joseph as the next target for an incestuous attack! Is this amazing tale an isolated incidence? Are all men capable of being such dangerous monsters?

Just as the story of Joseph Fritzl was spreading around the world, in Britain, another man dubbed “British Joseph Fritzl” made very serious headlines for raping his two daughters repeatedly and impregnating them. The 56 year old man had been at this sinful act against his daughters for 25 years! He was sentenced to jail after he admitted his crimes!

In my own city of Kampala, a number of press reports keep coming up where fathers are put in the dock ( in court) by their daughters who have repeatedly been raped and others either pregnant or already  carrying children they got through an incestuous relationship with their own fathers. In my culture, sleeping with your own daughter is the most ignoble thing a father could do, but stories of men sleeping with their daughters are very common in our society.

We all know that even animals with the most irrational mental faculties do not copulate with close relatives. Once I saw a group of chimps in a documentary where a young female chimp tried to make advances at a dominant male that sired it, and I was shocked to see the male pushing the female chimp violently away! It occurred to me that incestuous tendencies are not even tolerated in the animal kingdom. The question still remains, how could a father lose all logic and want a have a carnal experience with his own blood daughter?
