Are Woman’s Fashion Magazines Really Cleverly Disguised Sex Manuals for Women?

Is it a secret that women really purchase fashion magazines more for the sexual advice, and less for the beauty and health tips?

I don’t think so. Most of the fashion magazines I’d read were about health and beauty tips & about love and relationship, no sex tips.
    Thanks for sharing.

Maybe because sex sells. But really, women usually buy fashion magazines to read something and the titles you’ve mentioned are quite interesting, I must say.

Yes, they are. Titillation value. Sex sells – it’s more in the mind. Not many have the time, inclination and energy for the exercises.

    a very interesting pos ;)
well.. i didn’t think of tha before, but i think women magazines focus on beauty, fashion and women helth… the magazine you read was really wierd though..!!!! i mean there was no single topic that would talk about something that don’t contain sexual things..!!

We can not run away from the truth. People love sex, not just women, but men too, and since most wouldn’t want to acknowledge this fact, they would want to devour sex stories in the secrecy of their offices and bedrooms. The best way for those who sell sex has therefore been to disguise this as fashion. Nice article, great observation.

Fashion magazines? Really? The only magazines that I’ve seen that have titles like that are magazines like Cosmopolitan and such magazines are not fashion magazines. In fact originally the woman who dream up and started Cosmo did so, so that women could learn how to “please her man.” Also, the fact that it says the sexual content on the cover makes them neither disguised nor clever if they were trying to disguise themselves.

Interesting article though I as a general rule leave these type of magazines at the store. But I will read them if they are left at my workplace.Sex sells and always will, but doesnt take what they say seriuosly.Sex is different with everyone and no articles may not change that. But not all magazines sell sex….some talks about health and other topics.

Well written article. Most of these magazines are focusing on the younger generation. They know that most of their business comes from the younger ladies. They are not writng these articles and trying to appeal to the middleaged, or experienced woman. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that the experienced married women already know all these sexual tips and positions. They are therefore focusing their efforts on teenagers and newly married females in order to sell their magazines, which they are. In other words, it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, so this is why their appealing to the puppies. Well done.

Women do not need manuals on how to please men! That is a natural, given birth talent we have. Besides, men are generally more horny and easy to please :)

Good observation. I don’t mind reading about these things but nowadays it seems that’s all these magazines contain month after month after month. Maybe 10, 15 years ago they had interesting, informative articles, lots of beauty and fashion tips and a little sex.. I don’t buy them anymore.

This was quite excellent! I think the sex business applies more to adult women magazines (like cosmopolitan) instead of teen magazines. I didn’t see anything about a hot sex position in the latest issue of seventeen! ;D

I don’t think women fashion magazines would be considered undercover sex manuals because they would truly be lacking all that’s needed top know from A to Z, however they may be considered provocative enough to the point to generate sales and open your mindset a little further in the sexual direction. Some of us don’t need the advice while some of us do, so happy reading. :)

You’re taking a shortsighted view. The sex articles are all about how to get BETTER at sex; they’re about creating insecurity in the reader and then promising to fix it.

I agree with you completely, but then I’m one of those who never buys and seldom reads such magazines. It seems so much more rewarding to get information from the internet these days, especially when it is fueled by programs such as Triond.

Sex is a major part of our society. All teenagers are thinking of doing or have done it, and how mand virgins can u find pass the age of thirty? Sex can be sold, traded and given away for free. So not only is it an human activity, its now an item.

the dirty little secret you uncovered is pretty much known by every woman that has ever picked up a magazine but it is an interesting observation. I think it is just fine that women genuinely want to improve their sexual awareness and techniques. Keeping sex interesting is part of having a healthy happy life. There are always new things to try and sometimes we need a little prod to give them a shot. you dont have to go through all 99 ways to blow your boys mind to have a great evening but if you find one that works all the better. And worse case scenario you learn something new about your partner that you will avoid next time.

The reason these magazines sell to women is the same reason romance novels sell to women. Women are more stimulated by the involved fantasy of completely satisfying their partner and being everything they desire. Men are more stimulated by a pretty pic.

Most magazines do sell sex. Or at least the ones I see when in the line at the grocery store. I always see Cosmopolitan with it like this. The website is also like this. Just as men are interested in sex so are woman.

I admit that I buy the magazines just as much for the articles on sex as for the articles on health and beauty. Sometimes it’s interesting to read up on tips that other people have had success with, and to try new things. Not to say that I am religious about sex advice or anything like that. I hold my own, but that doesn’t mean the articles aren’t at the very least interesting if not helpful. But it’s not just about the sex, I do actually read the other stuff too.

I actually find the sex advice in those magazines unrealistic and juvenile, trust me I do just fine on my own, I have never had any complaints lol, but still it was a well written atricle and very intelligent to write something controversial, controversy always gets lots of attention ;) good job

The first fashion models in the universe were Adam and Eve and don\’t tell me you don\’t know who did their garments that were made to cover their nakedness to lessen the sexual attention, perhaps!

It is interesting and the debate focusses on fashion magazines and the editor includes such things as one of the marketing trend. No magazine is an exception to this.
