Atomic Bomb
My thoughts on WMD’s.
In today’s world, weapons of mass destruction are required to help insure a countries safety, without them the Unites States Jeopardizes itself leaving us vulnerable to another terrorist attack similar, or worse to the attacks on 9/11.
People often say that Al quida doesn’t have an abundance of of money to cover the 1.1 billion dollars required to make a single atomic bomb, and even if they do have sufficient needs, they still wouldn’t be able to build it, because their scientists are too “technologically challenged” to be able build one. Although that statement is rather reassuring, it is in-fact false. Intel shows that they do have enough funds to build at least several of them, and even if they are technologically challenged, the fact of the matter is, Al Quida is not our biggest threat, North korea is.
Kim Jong-il, the dictator of North Korea, has made multiple threats to the United States and South Korea that they have Weapons of Mass Destruction and are not afraid to use them. Knowing that information, why would we get rid of one of the important things that prevents nuclear warfare. A few more reasons why the united states should not disarm nuclear weaponry are: Al quida claims to have weapon’s of mass destruction, and if they do then that is a major threat to the United States, and another reason is because North Korea (who does in fact have the economic stability required to build and launch multiple Atomic War-heads) has made several threats to the United States and to South Korea. If we get rid of the security that the Atomic Bomb provides to our country, then the U.S. would have a much higher chance of receiving an attack.
The atomic bomb not only represents a weapon anymore, its represents security, power, wealth and freedom. Anyone who tries to tempt the United States of America will get more than just a slap on the wrist, they’ll get a whole 10 million pounds of TNT right on their door step, giving the U.S. Air Force’s term, “Warheads on Foreheads” its true meaning. In my opinion, a terrorist group is more willing to fight a country that is less likely to retaliate with such brute force, so why would we take away the thing that makes terrorists fearful of the devastating repercussions that would follow a hostile act against the U.S.
If you are still not convinced, then lets just say that if we were to disarm our bombs, and North Korea jumps, and takes the situation by its horns, decides to drop one single atomic bomb on New York City, on an average afternoon day, the initial blast would destroy everything within 30 miles, killing an estimated 8,391,881 men, women, and poor little children, that does not even count the millions that would die later from radiation sickness, cancer, and many other skin diseases. the radiation would be caught by the wind and taken from New York City and deposited all across the North Atlantic Ocean, poisoning our water supply.
The United States can not afford another attack on our cities or our infrastructure, especially during an economical downfall. Our nuclear and atomic weapons help provide unseen safety to the families at home across the nation. Although other countries and terrorist organizations have the funds and resources to create more nuclear weapons, who are willing to attack us, we must keep all forms of protection we can control. The consequences of losing these weapons and technology, could very possibly be the result of the loss of many lives, devastating warfare, and atomic fallout. Keep the weapons, keep the peace.
