Baby Born Twice in Texas

A medical miracle has happened in Texas when a baby was taken out of the mother’s womb for a surgery and then put back again. The baby was born again 10 weeks later.

A medical miracle happened in Texas, USA when a baby was taken out of the mother’s womb for a tumor surgery and was then put back in her mother’s womb and then 10 weeks later the baby was again reborn!

Sounds crazy? But it is true. The parents went to Texas Children’s Hospital (fetal center) for a prenatal ultrasound monitor to find the baby’s sex when the radiologists got alarmed as they found a large tumor growing in the baby’s tailbone in the lower part of the body. The tumor was not malignant but of the size of a grapefruit, and it was interfering with blood supply in the baby.

The surgeons determined to do an intrauterine surgery to save the baby’s life. They cut open the mother’s abdomen, opened the uterus, and took out the lower part of the baby’s body to remove the mass. Then the baby was again put back in the mother’s womb and she was born perfectly healthy 10 weeks later.

This is an extremely rare case, affecting babies once in every 35,000. These kind of sophisticated surgeries are performed only in 3 hospitals in the world at present. This surgery has opened up new doors to doctors. Plastic surgeons thing such advancements in medical science can lead to fetal reconstructive surgery like repairing birth defect such as cleft palate before birth, removing tumors, and so on.
