Big Brother is Watching You

Big brother is watching you.

Big brother is watching you, something you will hear in a communist country like the Soviet Union or China. I’ll bet you never heard that big brother is watching you here in Canada, or America, or every single country in the world. The only difference is, in a communist country, the big brother is the government, in a capitalist country, the big brother, perhaps most surprisingly, are the corporations.

Corporation is just like humans, they have their brain (board of directors), their sensors (management), and the cells that carry out functions (employees). You perhaps wonder, how can a corporation be the big brother that is constantly watching you? Well, let me explain. You daily Internet activity, such as typing key words on
Google, posting a blog, reading an article, or even book a travel plan, are being constantly recorded by corporations. Google records everything you type into their search engines, and sell them to corporations that use this information to find out the effectiveness of their advertising campaign, or what is the hottest products online.

Yahoo
records the travel plans you make, and from that they can identify your income level (the choice of hotels you choose), your destination, the type of car you drive (how many people are going on this trip), then sell it to companies that are interested in placing an advertisement on Yahoo. This technology enables companies to place advertisement that are incredibly accurate to their audience. You may then wonder, what does all this have to do with big brother? First of all, all your activities are being constantly monitored and analyzed much like the communist country, only the corporations are interested in money, whereas a communist country is interested in stable society and absolute power. Secondly, you think you have the power over the stuff you buy, you think you have freedom, but in the end, your so-called “freedom” is only a delusions.

Corporations use peer pressure, mass advertisement and manipulation, and very much controls what you think. You think you have to buy an iPod because you want to have your music wherever you are, but sorry to pop the balloon for you, but it is the corporations that want you to have your music wherever you are, and you listened to them like a mindless mummy. They gave you this idea, and keep selling you this idea of have your music wherever you are until you are absolutely obedient to whatever they say. Take a minute and think, do you really need your music wherever you are? What happens to the people before iPod and Mp3s? Did they suicide just because they don’t have an iPod ? Is an iPod absolutely necessary for your survival or is it the corporations know you are going to think that an iPod is absolutely necessary because they constantly monitors everything you do online?

In the end, you are not choosing what you want to choose, its the corporations who choose what you are going to choose. Now, sum it up, corporations choose what is right for you, monitors you activity, that sounds familiar? Yep, big brother is watching you, only this time, big brother wants your money instead of your loyalty.

Corporations hire thousands of hundreds of psychologists who are expert in the field of human behavior, and these psychologists study your behavior, reactions towards certain issues, and how you would act. Trust me, these psychologists know more about you than you know about yourself, because to them, you are primitive, you are willing to pay extra money to get things that do nothing but satisfies your own self-esteem. Why do you think kids and even adults are completely obsessed with video games? Because of the psychologists at whatever institute know more about men and boys than men and boys know themselves.

You see, the corporations create a delusion that you are free to choose, but ultimately, the corporations know you so God damn well that they know what exactly you are going to say, think, and act towards their products and their advertisement, and that, is truly scary, because you are being lied to, just like the media censorship in a communist country.

Yep, big brother is watching you, only this time, big brother wants your money instead of your loyalty.

Feel helpless? You can change the world, a bit at a time, starting with yourself.

Hi, you make a point, but it also makes you wonder, when one person can take a megaphone, go to the upper level in a mall and shout out a message to bring many, many people to where he is, ask them all to raise their hands and they do. This actually happened, and so I wonder how much programming does it really take. We are caught up, in too many routine things, such that we just don’t think sometimes, we just accept without thinking, to our own detriment. Well written article.
