When George Orwell wrote “1984″ his vision, apparently, was that of science fiction. However, did he write a book of futuristic fantasy? Or is it, in fact, being turned into something of a reality by today’s modern leaders.

Call me paranoid by all means; but how far is our society from being silently, (or not so silently), controlled by a central intelligence unit? Look at the facts emerging already:

• Plans for the creation of Identity Cards.
• Plans for the creation of a National DNA Database.
• The new law passed recently allowing the Government to monitor the Publics’ Phones.

How long is it then before we have “plans” for a CCTV, “Big Brother” type network rolled out into all domestic dwellings across the UK? If “1984″ is steadily becoming a reality then how far is the film, “I, Robot,” from being possible through modern science and technology?

On a less fantastical level I guess the question I am posing is this; “How far away are we from loosing our Democratic rights under the modern political regime. And how close are we to becoming a totalitarian state?” I’m concerned even if you’re not!!
