Bio-Engineering and Cloning

Is it wise to play God with genetics?

The thought of bio-engineering and gene therapy is truly a double edged sword.  While gene therapy can treat and cure numerous ailments and is needed in its own right; the thought of blatantly testing nature is quite unsettling to me.  Bio-engineering is particularly troublesome. The need to control everything about the human race, right down to selectively choosing your future offspring’s hair, eye, and skin color, as well as their intellect and gender, is just unnatural and unholy.  It is a belief, that if we continue with such endeavors, we shall find ourselves on the brink of destruction, if we haven’t already meandered too far down the path to turn around.

Cloning is another biological endeavor which terrifies me. Science may have been able to clone animals, but the lifespan and life quality of those animals is drastically reduced.  There is no need for immorality. There is no need for longer life. We are given this life for a reason, and if we are too blind to see what that reason and purpose is, then we don’t deserve to live at all.  Prolonging death will not change your purpose in life; it will merely keep you longing for more. When does it end? This isn’t the philosopher’s stone; we are not meant to live to be six hundred.  Playing god with our genetics will only serve as our downfall, not our greatest triumph. Many truly fear the day that nature retaliates, because evolution has a way of balancing the scales. It always has and it always will. In twenty years, many hope that we have enough insight to know that playing god will do nothing but send us all to hell.
