Blackout Britain

75% of UK coucils are comitted or considering turning of street lighting in an attempt to slash spending cuts.

Fears are mounting as 75% of councils in the UK are considering  turning off our street lighting in a bid to cut council spending by 26%

The UK  7.5million street lamps cost an estimated £500million pound per year and so this proposal has been suggested to cut council spending by 26%.A massive 45% of local councils have already pledged their commitment to dimming or turning off our street lighting  this year  while a further  30% are considering this action

Many UK residents and the police are expressing alarm that this action will lead to more street violence and crime after dark not to mention road safety organisations  who have expressed major concerns at these proposals Head of road safety in Britain Andrew Howard had this to say ” local authorities have to get the right balance between plunging people into darkness and saving money” Street lighting improves safety for drivers, pedestrians and riders A Trial carried out in 2009 by the UK,Germany,Australia and the United States echoes this belief.the findings were that by turning out street lamps there could indeed be an increase in accidents on the roads by as much as 3x what We see already

Police forces up and down the country have added their voice to this argument they have concerns also along with road traffic safety organisations but stressed in a report that they believe the level of violent crimes and muggings will also increase if our county  is plunged into complete darkness

SO what next for Britain

Ration books, perhaps back to the three day week for this proposal does reek more than a little of the bleak days of1970s when in an attempt to preserve electricity[due to striking miners] GREAT Britain experienced power cuts and blackouts, the only difference this time around is that the government of today in a feeble attempt to save face are hiding behind the guise of the environment, when in fact if they were really that concerned about climate change and environmental alterations they should be investing in alternate street lighting and power sources The great British public are not fools this is all about cut backs, cut backs, cut backs, plain and simple

Perhaps this is a good indication of what to expect from our  brand new government, lots of people groping and bumping about in the dark, seeing very little and doing even less.New government brighter future for the people of Britain.”I don’t think so if these proposals are anything to go by” Do you?
