Blogging About Tragedy

Newspapers report the news. Much of the news is bad. Now my blog reports the news, too.

Billie Holiday sang about personal tragedy.  She sang The Blues.  Billie Holiday sang about personal bad news.  She sang about social bad news.  She sang about heartache.  I can’t find my old Billie Holiday cassette.  And even if I could I no longer have a cassette player.  I don’t have the money to buy new music.

I’m broke.  I drank my last 40oz bottle of beer Sunday and won’t get my check for freelance online ghostwriting from Textbroker until some time next week.  I need a new pair of blue jeans and last night I had a dream about an old girlfriend.  In the dream she told me I was a lousy lover.

People are not only fascinated by The Blues they like to read about it, too.  Dear, reader, I know that you don’t like to read bad news but somebody out there does.  When people read bad news, often we can only give thanks, “Thank God that’s not me.”  That’s how newspapers stay in business.  Every so often you will read about someone publishing a newspaper with only good, happy news in it.  You know what happens to newspapers like that?…

Think about it.

Well, now I have a new category on my blog.  It’s the news category.  I write news summaries.  I go to the web and find a story about tragedy.  Let’s say this particular news story is 800 words long.  I copy it and paste it into my blog composition box and write a new 150-word summary of the story, delete the old story and I post the new story.  The more tragic the story and the greater the coverage by the mainstream media the better.  Since I took early retirement, blogging is very much now my profession.  The new news category is getting steady hits.  Once I get people to come to my blog they look around and find other things of interest.  You can’t sale what you make unless you get customers to stop and come into your store.  And I never run out of news stories to use as reference material.

I’m a professional blogger.  I have to use my blog to supplement my social security check.  I just wish I didn’t have to use The Blues to do it.

My blog has a new name.  Now it’s Compressionism: The Pittsburgh Stories (Ebook)

I’m sorry about your money situation. Your blog sounds interesting and I am happy people are reading your news summaries.
This is a great article. Hang in there, it’s always darkest before the dawn.

Sorry but the 40 ounces of beer-that money can be saved up for a new pair of jeans-if you\’re in the habit of drinking a lot of 40 ounce bottles, ha! I’m married to a drinker-stinker and it’s sucks so maybe I have stepped on toes! I sing the blues, but in a different way!

It is a shame you find it hard to make ends meet but I hope your blog becomes even more successful. I must say I prefer happy news.

Well, my favorite song that features the name blues is in fact a really fun rocknroll song called Poor Boy Blues. I heard it from Poison but I don’t know if they wrote it or not.

I hate the blues. I hate tragedy. I try to avoid the news as much as I can. I don’t listen to Radiohead or most of the time not even Jef Buckley. I just don’t like tragedy. Am I the only one?

More and more people are becoming depressed because of tragedies in our lives. Nice post and good ideas. :)

It is a shame that sad news draws so many people. Here we are in danger of losing our beaches and endangering our eco system because of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. I live here and I just about can’t take anymore news about it. Maybe you should add it to your tragedy list.

I ‘ve often wondered why people become habitual ,reading newspapers ,First thing in the morning, devouring papers full of tragedies, the front page irrationally being more ,emphasized on big ‘blue’ headings.I AM NOT THE ONE…..AND AM SURE ,THERE ARE MANY MORE LIKE ME.All the best for your Blog buddy

Good article, bad news does travel faster than good news always has. Using it as a tool is ok your just relaying the truth. This is a dry house this week too, money money money, etc etc. LB

Bad news it is sad to hear and it depresses me. But atleast, we would make a small pray that moment “God Bless them, they are suffering and need your help”.

I could not have said it better myself. Good news travels fast, but bad news travels faster.

Unfortunately having to blog on the “blues” is what gets most people, then we have to do,
    what one has to do.
    Great post
