Blood and Oil
A review.
Blood and oil, wow! I have not seen something like this
in a long time. It told the Niger-Delta story nicely and captured Nigeria in
its natural form, no pretences. This movie showed Nigeria as she really is; the
noise, the bustling, especially the scenes in the plane and at the airport, the
immigration officers at their best and of course the church scene. It was
really nice that no one looked right at the camera as they are apt to do in
Nigerian movies. The movie unraveled very well. The way it started, one would
assume it was the usual rescue-the-hostage type of action movie but with the
Niger-Delta setting but as the movie progressed, it became something else and
one would realize that the real villains were the people one least expected.
The actors did a fantastic job even though the accents and the pidgin English
of the Nigerians, could have been more authentic. By the time the movie ended,
we could see how deeply seated corruption is, not just in Nigeria but in the
world as a whole. This is a great movie which deserves an award.
