Bottled Water is a Pollutant
Society, including all of us, have been misled by water marketing cmpanies. These companies have sold us bottled water by telling us that bottled water is cleaner and better. The reality is that bottled water is neither cleaner nor better. Further, they have sold us ordinary water packaged in smart looking bottles at inflated prices. Studies show that bottled water is ACTUALLY tap water. The plastic bottles are polluting our environment and should be banned.
History and Background
Water is almost a free natural mineral resource that is present in large amounts. It occurs in all thee forms: solid, liquid and gas. It is a chemical which is made up of one two atoms of hydrogen and one atom oxygen. The bonding can be broken to release the elements of hydrogen and oxygen. Water is essential for all forms of life. There would be no life on earth if there was no water. The human body contains 70 to 80 % water.
Solid water is known as ice and covers the northern and southern caps of the globe. Many mountain tops and glaciers also contain frozen water. Liquid water fills the oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. Indeed water is known to cover more than 70 % of the surface of the earth. It has been estimated that 2 % of the earth’s water is underground and can be accessed by digging wells and through aquifers. Water in gaseous form is called stem and occurs naturally in the form of clouds. It is this water that falls as rain. The amount of water that exists in the form of clouds is less than o.001 % yet it can cause untold damage when it pours down as rain. The processes which convert cloud to rain are not clearly understood. However, when it rains heavily it can cause a lot of damage. Damage running in the millions of dollars.
Definition of Water
The Encarta Dictionary: English (UK) states that mineral water (noun) is water with mineral salts. It is drinkable water with high mineral salt or gas content, either obtained from a mineral spring or with minerals added. It is usually sold in bottles. I take issue with this definition because very few minerals are added by mankind. These minerals naturally dissolve into the water as it flows over land or through underground passages. Some authorities add chlorine and iodine but this is not a universal phenomenon. Gases too naturally dissolve into the flowing water.
Constituents of a Molecule of Water
Water is a naturally occurring chemical compound of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen. Hence the chemical formula is H2O. It is often referred to as “mineral water” because it is most frequently extracted from the ground just like solid minerals.
Pure water, by definition, is colourless, odourless and tasteless. Yet many people describe water as having a fresh taste.

You are so right about this. Despite the many tests showing that even tap water is better than bottled water in many places (not everywhere), people tend to use bottled water. Good article.

Excellent article, and so true! Also people do not take into consideration what happens to the water inside a bio-disintegrating bottles over time. The chemicals go into the water that we even drink out of the bottle itself. They say that it is not a good idea to refill these bottles over and over for this fact. Slowely the bottle will decay and you will notice this as the bottle starts to feel thin and bends easily.
