Burden of Illegal Immigrants on America
Today, almost every developed economy in the world is having problem of illegal immigration. The United States of America is one country that is feeling the burden of illegal immigrants on its economy as well as security.
The issue of illegal immigration is no doubt becoming one of the greatest challenges facing developed economies in the world today. Developed countries of the world are on a daily basis having increasing number of people trying to gain entry illegally into their countries.
The United States of America is one of the countries facing the problem of illegal immigrants. The U.S Border Control has estimated that 10.8 million people live in the U.S soil illegally. According to the agency, more people are still trying to gain entry illegally into America even with several efforts to discourage it. However, many reasons have been identified to be responsible for the trend. Illegal immigrants tend to travel to countries that are more technologically advanced and have greater resources that can offer them several opportunities. In most cases, illegal immigrants embark on these fruitless efforts to escape the unpalatable economic situations in their countries.
Reasons for Illegal Immigration
One of the major reasons why United States of America is having recurrent problem of undocumented immigrants is because if they give birth in the U.S, their children are given automatic citizenship. This kind of advantage they derive in United States is not usually extended to them in some other countries like France where there are stiff penalties for illegal immigrants and their collaborators.
Illegal immigrants from Caribbean and Mexico consist of the highest numbers of these undocumented immigrants residing in United States. They have over the years constituted the greatest burden on the American economy according to some Americans who are opposed to illegal immigration.
Report has it that many illegal immigrants are responsible for smuggling of drugs into the United States with the assistance of some drug lords. Many are however into the business of smuggling people into the United States by conveying them in vans without proper ventilation. Many illegal immigrants have lost their lives in the process. The “coyote” that is most cases responsible for this illegal transit collects huge sums of money from the would-be immigrants before embarking on the journey. Many other smugglers even go as far as issuing fake American passports for these illegal immigrants in their efforts to smuggle them into United States.
Report further has it that apart from those who enter illegally into United States- so many others have abused their legal entry by overstaying beyond the stipulated time as indicated in their visas.
