Cabin Fever

The medical desription of Cabin Fever and what Cabin Fever is like in reality.

Married or long term partners have to tolerate each others funny ways as you are committed to each other for the long haul.  With your partner your relationship is also on a sexual level which eases tension and aids bonding.

The mystery of the “Mary Celeste” could be explained by Cabin Fever? A ship found adrift with not a soul on board? The dinner table was set for a meal.  Perhaps a large argument broke out over menu? Or who was washing the plates?  This sounds laughable but people confined really do get on each others nerves.

The Mary Celeste abandoned over dinner?

I’m lucky enough to have never been in prison.  The thought of being confined does not appeal to me at all.  I have had a taste of Cabin Fever whilst I am waiting for my operation later this year.  I spend my day writing and sometimes talking to myself! My partner works full time, so its me the laptop and two cats!  I could easily imagine if this was to be a permanent state for me, Cabin Fever would set in without doubt.

As a race Human Beings are a social animal and they need stimulus from other people, we were not designed for solitude.  I have worked extremely hard having three jobs at one time in my life.  The thought of a day off on my own watching movies and having a glass or two of wine seemed fantastic!  However now I have seen the other side of that coin which is enforced solitude, I know what I prefer.

As we get older I think we can reason better and stand solitude more, this may have a bearing on Astronauts being recruited in their late 30s or early 40s?  How many times have you heard a child say  “Mum I’m bored I don’t know what to do”  children are honest.  As adults we are not supposed to get bored we are beyond that.

Remember the film called  “The Shining” a family is snowed in, in a hotel and the writer (Jack Nicholson) goes mad through Cabin Fever and tries to kill his family? So beware Cabin Fever does exist.

I do get cabin fever when I don’t have money to hangout. That’s why I’m glad the weather has been summer-like here in Pittsburgh. I go for long walks down to the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. The students are out sunbathing and I walk through campus sipping on bottled water and through Schenley Park and then back to my apartment. After such a lovely, long walk in the sun I’m ready for another few hours working at the computer.

But during the winter, to be broke is hell. I’m not going to go outside to freeze and so I end up spending hours alone in my apartment. Thank God summer is just around the corner. And so is another check in my PayPal account.

Interesting view on this topic, thought it was something left back in dark ages of the actual crews on old ships.

I don’t have cabin fever nor am I a claustrophobic. However, at times when I am stuck in a very crowded elevator with too many people around, I can\’t stand it. I would like to be stuck in a cabin for a weekend in Colorado in the winter. Also, I have a friend who suffers from a nervous cough all the time. It\’s a bit annoying. Good article.

I only get cabin fever when I am around my in-laws too long, and 5 minute would be too long for me,. they are truly suffocating. Great article and I love the presentation.

I have gotten cabin fever once when we got snowed in a basement apartment in Maryland, the snow covered all the windows. I admit I have had a bit of it this winter with the weather so cold but now with spring I feel better. Good article.

The title interested me, some time ago I watched a gruesome movie with this same title. I had nightmares. I like your thoughts about this. Thanks.
