Can Video Games be Good for Teens?
The ups and downs of video game playing.
Video games can not be good for teens. They make their lives much harder than they need to be. Video games teach them bad things. They also keep them from doing more important things. They’re addictive, and if I were a parent I wouldn’t let my kids have more than one video game system, and they wouldn’t be allowed to play it a lot.
Video games encourage violence and bad language. When teens see people and monsters on video game fighting, shooting, and hurting each other, they think that it’s cool. Teens are very impressionable, so this makes them want to be just like the characters. So they go places and get into fights, and copy the bad things that the characters say to each other.
Video games also can become antisocial and isolated from other things if they play video games. My brother play video games on his computer and game systems all the time. The other day, when we went to a few stores, he said he wouldn’t ever go shopping with us again. He just wanted to get home and play his video game! Other people play video games a lot more than he does, but that doesn’t mean he should play them so much.
The games and game systems teens use cost a lot of money! My brother saves his money most of the time, so he’ll have about $100 and then when he sees a video game he wants, he just blows all his money on it. With game systems, teens will buy one, and spend a lot of money. That’s fine. But then a newer one will come out, and they want that too. Then another, and another, and so on. They spend all their money on things that aren’t important!
Video games make teens skip out on important life skills, like communicating with friends in person. They skip chores, to play some dumb video game. Video games sometimes keep them from doing homework. They get bad grades, and maybe even fail out of school! Teens shouldn’t be allowed to play video games for more than about an hour per day. Would you want your teenager to get bad grades? Would you want them to become antisocial, bad-mannered, and violent? Nobody should!

Excuse me, but there are two tybes of people, introverts and extroverts. just because someone plays videogames alot doesn’t mean they will become violent. I’m sure if a sat down and played super mario world for 2 days i won’t go out and jump on turtles. because i know its a videogame and nothing more.

I know this is opinion, but something is wrong here. They don’t cause teens to become violent, but the violence is more appealing to violent people. These types of games and many others, help relieve stress, and with online features, teens are more likely to socialize with friends. And also, I agree that most teens can tell the difference between real life and a game. As for those who cannot, then yes I agree, violent games are not the best for them. All I am saying is that playing a violent game is not going to make me go shoot someone.

Look at the two kids at Columbine. Doom was there favorite video game and they played it a lot. I’m not saying it was the root cause of what they did, but I’m sure it was right up there. obviously they did not value life, which violent video games teach. Not only can you kill legally but you can do it thousands upon thousands of times. Imagine what that does to the mind that is addicted to those kind of video games.
Any parent that let’s there kids play them hours upon hours needs to have there own heads examined.

This can only apply to some kids that have angermanagment issues. I play halo 3 and call of duty 4 and trust me, it dosent make me want to go kill somone. Many parents are to critical when it comes to shooting games. I can understand when a parent is concerned about gears of war or really bloody games like that but not other mild games. I play them because I get to connect with my friends better and make new friends. like my friends friend is now my friend in real life because of video games. Main point: If your a normal teen then shooting games arn’t going to affect you

video games do not make me do bad at school. if you are failing school, thats your own fault! i knoow that i have the strength to stop playing video games to go do my homework. all you have to do is stop or pause and come back when your done with homework. and the last time i checked, i wasnt encouraged to grab a bazooka and go shoot people.
