Catholic Church Publicity Stunt as Shroud Shows Jesus?
After all the recent statements and lawsuits relating to certain Catholic priests and their involvement over the years of sexual abuse to boys in their care and under their teachings, is the revealing of the shroud with a picture of Jesus Christ on it just a publicity stunt?
After all the recent statements and lawsuits relating to certain Catholic priests and their involvement over the years of sexual abuse to boys in their care and under their teachings, is the revealing of the shroud with a picture of Jesus Christ on it just a publicity stunt?
It is not the first time the shroud has been in the lime light of the media. The shroud of Turin is a piece of cloth with what is said to have the image of the body of a man being crucified on it. Many believe the cloth was Christ’s burial shroud.
The shroud is being exhibited at Turin Cathedral from April 10th until March 25th and over 1.3 million people have said to already have reserved tickets to see this wonder of all wonders.

Computer artists in London have been said to have taken blood that was encoded on the cloth from the shroud of Turin using cutting edge digital technology. They believe it have given them the chance to turn it into a 3 D image of Christ’s face. The image was created for the History channel program to be aired later this week.
After all the media attention for the Catholic church and the down fall of their paedophile priests that has surrounded us for the last few months, is it strange to ask if it’s just a coincidence that they should bring the shroud back to the attention of the people, a clever way to restore faith in its uncertain followers?
Is it just another way to take the lime light away from the members of the Catholic hierarchy, whom did not report the crimes committed by their priests but moved them to other locations where they still freely had unlimited access to minors and took that freedom by continuing to sexually abuse adolescent males.

The shroud was first discovered in the 14 century in France and was said to have been Christ’s burial shroud, but could it have been forged?
I suppose after all this time the forensic evidence would be difficult to retrieve. Or it would be difficult to tell if someone had tampered with it years and years ago. Shroud replicas have been made before in the past, using pigment on the linen and then artificially aging it.
We may never know the truth about the history of the shroud and who the man on the shroud is but I should think parents that are part of the Catholic Church will do their duties and keep their children protected by talking about the sex abuse.

Its all shrouded in mystery. You are right, parents need to talk to the kids about sex abuses and taboos but in a careful way.

To me, the Catholic Church is simply big business. It protects it’s own at any cost. If you look at it’s history, how it has used and abused people through the centuries, it is no different than Scientology.
Christ himself said you don’t need a church.
Thanks,

I think you could be right. They have to try and promote a positive public image when there has been so much bad publicity about them.

The more we think about the shroud and the priests who made a bad impression of the Catholic faith, the more we forgot the essence of Jesus Christ being nailed on the cross. Life in it’s entirety is all about diversions, isn’t it? A timely post for Good Friday, Lisa.

I am ambivalent about this subject. I do believe that it is very rare to see an image of Jesus. I can;t believe these people who see Jesus on a potato chip. I think some people just want their 15 minutes of fame.

MissL…As deep blue says…a timely post. In a similar vein I have no idea how many thousands of miniature nails have been supposedly fashioned from the metal of the three spikes that were used to nail Christ to the cross and similarly I think people have lost count of the number of miniature crosses proportedly made from the wood of the old rugged cross…as PT Barnum says “there’s a sucker born every minute…” typical Good Friday morning here cloudy, gloomy, rainy but Easter Sunday is expected to be sunny and bright and hopefully warm enough to melt the five or six inches of snow we are supposed to get between now and then. Happy Easter everyone and of course I voted that this article get one more Easter egg!!!

I can’t say much about this. I think all the religions are just business. Nothing more. I may sound harsh but that’s the truth to me. Very good and interesting write.

Beliefs are a very complex and sensitive topic. I just hope no more children become victims and the culprits are brought to justice.

Don’t get me started on Catholicism. If ever there were a religion that was built upon a dour jumble of negatives it was Catholicism; a religion that don’t so much celebrate its existence but positively mourns it. A religion that instils one thing—fear! Be good or be damned! A religion who’s leader still condemns the use of condoms in Africa where Aids is endemic. Forget the Turin shroud, which is about as genuine/relevant as you seeing ol’ J.C.’s face in one of your cornflakes tomorrow morning.
When I was a kid, my Catholic friend used to dread having to go to ‘confession’ every week, simply because he had nothing to confess about. In the end he’d plum for the very glib ‘lustful thoughts’ sin, not realising that the person he was telling it to was probably having lustful thoughts of a much much darker nature.
The Catholic Church has been steeped in corruption/perversion since time immemorial. Back in the days when, having lived a life of debauchery, you could pay some priest, who would grant forgiveness and a place in heaven. Thank god for Martin Luther, who broke from the Catholic Church and created a Christian alternative.
OK, rant over! Strong subject-matter, well written, Lisa BTW

No one will ever know the truth about the shroud but I hope to goodness parents will never trust their children to the church again. Those priests sound worse to trust your children to than criminals on the street.

That’s why Jesus ensured the collection of the food that was left over after he fed the five thousand. He understands human nature. People would have probably sold bits of fish as souveneirs.

Yes I read about the cloth, interesting to say the least.
And as for the behaviour of priests, what goes around comes around,JUST mark my words it will take place and all of them shamed to the Max, and dealt to, JUST WAIT and see.

Sometimes this world is full of crap, we don’t know what to believe anymore. But one thing is certain, doing the noble thing in this world will make a difference for everybody. No question of Religion or what so ever. The hell, excuse me… I agree with Clay, ‘Christ himself said you don’t need a church’.

It’s the easiest thing to shift public attention away by heading it in a diffirent direction. At any rate, it’s all up to people to protect themselves in the end.

I’m not going to condemn a church because of what their followers do….the followers simply do not represent the religion as a whole. However, the abuse cases in the Catholic church are a different matter….because the church officials tried to hide and protect the abusers. I think you are very right in your questioning the motives here. It is suspect to say the least that they create a “religious” distraction to detract from the seriousness of the abuse. The prevalence of these priests, etc.. using the Catholic church as a pedophile playground should give parents pause in handing their children over, at least unsupervised. .

In 2009 an objective scientist proved how a shroud of Turin could be forged and duplicated the results.
