CAUGHT IN THE COUCH POTATO CRUNCH

Are you or your kids watching too much TV or playing games for too many hours on end on the computer or game station?  Probably, and if so you are sending your kids right along with yourself down a road to disaster and all of you into an abyss of chronic depression and anxiety, severe mental and emotional disorders that can easily be prevented if you act now.  We need to avoid and prevent getting caught up in the couch potato crunch.  It is destroying us.

We need to turn off the TV and unplug the games.  The TV and the PC and now even our cell phones have become surrogate parents, electronic babysitters and our virtual socialization center because we have become consumed by video games, chat rooms and a delusional reality in the programs we watch on TV.  We are becoming a society of poorly adjusted, brainwashed human beings who are depressed and battling a myriad of different anxieties and social disorders that are turning us into a society of misfits wallowing in a digital abyss of pathological disorders that are destroying us.

Is this a fair assumption?  Maybe and I personally believe that it is.  We are losing our ability to communicate even within the nucleus of the immediate family.  Families no longer really spend any quality time together.  Parents don’t know where their kids are or even each other and kids don’t know where their parents are and few of us know or comprehend where the other is coming from.  We have difficulty relating and in more and more cases can’t relate at all with others around us.  We have become a society that is socially malnourished and our children are becoming addicted to the couch potato crunch.  I am not saying this is the way it is in all families but it is becoming more and more the reality of the world we live in and it is preventable if we only will.

As a society we are not only becoming mentally and emotionally unhealthy but we are becoming physically ill as well to say nothing of what has happened to our spiritual wellness all because we are becoming more and more consumed by a virtual reality, addicted to the couch potato crunch an anti-social condition that leads to severe depression, anxiety and other social disorders.  More and more and younger and young people are being diagnosed with these problems.  More and more of our young adults and our children are turning to drugs and alcohol as an escape and more and more people are ending up on disability because these problems prevent them from being productive members of our society.  This is fact and we are footing the bill and sadly it is a situation that is only going to get worse if we don’t do something about it now; start making some better choices.

Some are doing this, those with wisdom are not. Machines will never replace human contact. Neither I nor my children have this problem. But it is a serious one and your are right to sound the alarm. The devil does not care that this is happening. Those caught up are pawns in the game. The whole mess revoles around $$$$$.
We fail to understand the system. All of it points to making a buck, no matter the cost.
We have been made fools of-we don’t need most of the gadgets out there. Society is sick and in need of a savior.

Even factions of the church are sick and never recieved Christ, to begin with. All is not lost, the agreement with hell can be broken. If one makes the decision.
There is only one answer-True Repentance and calling out to God with every inch of our being.

Mix every word you have said with scripture and you\’ve got a sermon. Leave the word of God out and it\’s a rant. I long since realized that folks don\’t and can\’t get the scales lifted from their eyes, or their hearing unplugged, without the power of the word, infused..
Still we can not help but rant sometimes.

This is really true! In fact many call it hellivision instead of television because it all too often promotes vices glorifying each type. We need to use it however to reach others for Jesus with better, more effective and relevant Christian programs. We should not let the television become the exclusive tool of the Devil while the gospel goes unheard. On a point of interest, the Hebrew word for cross is “tav” and initially the Jews left out their vowels in words so that makes “TV” as the official wortd for cross in the Old Testament! That is the TV that we need to behold and become changed.

This is a well written article Annette. You have presented actual facts and findings about a subject that influences our society greatly. Electronic media is nothing more than a tool. As is a gun, knife, shovel or any other tool that is used for a purpose. It is up to us as individuals to use or abuse these tools.

Good Article and you are right even though I don’t want to admit it I do spend a lot of time on my laptop, but at the same time I would like to think that a computer or a cell phone is just a way to connect with people not pull away from them. I do see your point however, and so nice share
