Discuss the Function of the family.

The Family as the basic Institution of the society regulates sexual behavior and is the unit for reproduction. The family teaches their child to know the role of man and a woman in their family. They are responsible that boys should be circumcised and girls are expected to have a menstruation when they reach the age of puberty. The family performs the function of biological maintenance. They look after the needs of child like food, shelter, nourishment and protection. It is the family who gives its member its status. It is the family that gives a child a name and lineage. The child is said to be rich if hi family is rich. The family is an important mechanism for social control. They teach their child to have an acceptable behavior by maintaining their family name clean by controlling their future animalistic attitude. The Family Performs economic function by letting their child to have a recreation, education, religion and learn politics. The last is that the family is the chief agency for socializing the child. The family transmits the culture of group that they live. They orient their child how to be sociable in his peer, classmates, wife and co-worker. They let their child to caught values.

“Family Comes First”– a great value that I learned from my professor. I was enlightened how my family plays an important role in my life. He told us that peer won’t stay with us all the time. Family on the other hand, will stay with you till your last day on earth. Family would stay with us for the rest of our life.
