Child Labor is Increasing Day by Day
Child labor must be controlled by making protective and strict law. The poor families are not only making them slaves but selling them for their own needs.
It is to save underage children from hard work and let them study to gain knowledge for better and brighter future to survive in this modern world. It is a pity to see that these young children are deprived of the basic necessities of life ranging from good food, better clothing, proper shelter and education.Their only fault is that they are born in such families that live under the poverty line, with large families to feed every hungry mouth. These young lads work under very harsh, exploitive and dangerous conditions that retards their mental and physical growth.
In early 90s due to the mounting pressure and force of United Nation and Common Wealth Organization many under developing countries took immediate step to control the child labor and amended their labor laws. However, Poverty and inflation are on the rise and the parents are too desperate to make both ends meet. As a result they send these kids aged between 7 to 12 years old boys and girls to be employed as servant at middle class people’s home. The maximum salary paid from the elite in the metropolitan city to a boy is rupees 1500 per month, less than 20 US dollars with only one Sunday off in all 30 days. In average the salary is rupees 1000 per month which is $ 13.15 with maximum two Sundays off in 30 days. This is because that now children are not allowed to work in industrial states due to strict checking by government department and different international certification audit companies where they can work on daily wages or monthly salary around rupees 3000 to 4500 per month.
Children are not complacent at their work place. It has been surveyed that most employers are too cruel, taking undue advantage of their innocence and helplessness. Facts have been brought to light by the media about the incidents of merciless torture on these lads by their employers such as sexual abuse and spanking with sharp objects.
This issue has been taken up but the problem is still not solved. To save our country’s future we need to literate the general public through media to create awareness,by providing resources and putting an end to poverty.
Education should be made free and compulsory to eradicate social indiscrimination and limiting the family size. It means first we have to educate the literate think tanks of the under developing countries to create a better system for contolling the population, social welfare which includes the child labor.
This practice must be stopped at the earliest to save the future. We should keep in mind that this is an issue of many precious lives and not a debate. Immediate steps should be taken to combat this menace as it is highly contagious to stop it from being spread to the remaining parts of the world.
