Child Prostitutes
Many throwaway children end up as prostitutes subjected to the most degrading life you can imagine. They cannot even ask for help for fear of their lives.
It doesn’t matter if you are Black, White, Christian, Jew, Agnostic, pro-life, or pro-choice when you see a child prostitute your first priority should be to get that child help. In 2003 Atlanta, Ga. was sited as being one of the U.S. cities with the highest number of child prostitutes. In 2003 the FBI broke up a ring of 14 men who were pimping girls as young as 10 years old. The non-profit Juvenile Justice Fund estimates that 200 to 300 children are pimped in Atlanta each month. Many children are pimped on web sites and through escort services. These are usually poor thrown away children who have been sexually abused or in some cases they are from prosperous homes that are abusive. The pimp befriends the child and puts them to work as prostitutes In one such case a 12 year old girl was imprisoned in a room with bars over the windows. An aunt rescued the girl as the pimp prepared to take her out of Georgia.

Supporters of those working to help these children of prostitution proposed a five dollar charge on anyone entering a strip club to go toward the treatment of young prostitutes, and to raise the age to get a stripping license from 18 to 21. When Atlanta did that 2,600 young women had to turn in their license. The skin trade tries to get them as young as possible, the easier to control and manipulate. Once children are in it’s almost impossible to escape from a pimp without outside help. Forced to take on dozens of men day and night, they are beaten, deprived of food and sometimes killed.
If you see a child you think might be a prostitute, don’t look away and think it’s someone else’s problem. Call children’s service in that city. Have someone investigate. That child might be in mortal danger and crying out for help. They dare not speak out, They know they will be severely punished or killed as a lesson to others by the pimp.

It isn’t only in large cities, a few years ago a man in Cartersville was arrested and is serving prison time for keeping girls imprisoned and working the sex trade in his home. One girl finally escaped and called police who rescued the others.
When these children do escape they require years of treatment to be able to live a normal life. Some can never escape the mind numbing experience and end up in mental hospitals. How we can let our children get into these situations speaks ill of all the family and friends of the family. The least we can do is pay attention and talk to any children we have any contact with. Know what is going on in their lives and if necessary get involved.

This is so disturbing Ruby. How can people exploit our children this way?

I hate child prostitution as well. I think there should be more public awareness on this too.

It’s horrific that anyone can do this to children … thank you for bringing such a vital issue to our attention Ruby.

You’re quite right, Ruby. This should never be allowed to go on anywhere on earth. What a travesty.

Ruby, you are absolutely right. It is mind numbing! Everyone needs to do their part in stopping this along with the pimps and the johns who participate in this! They should get life sentences. That’s what they give these children!

Sex trafficking is alive and well in this country, yet our prisons are full of men who smoked or sold pot. What does this tell us? Many of the customers of these sex slaves, are those who are in high places, and they camouflage their evil deeds, by focusing society in other directions. When do we get angry enough to expose this horrible sin of society? The news media keeps a low profile on this topic. WHY?

Prostitution is an ancient occupation as could be seen in the Bible. Mary Magdalene has thrived well in the modern world. How much more in such desolated countries as where I came from. They say poverty is the root cause. I wonder why Paris Hilton could care less in showing herself.

A shocking and sobering reality in an age when children are usually prized, cared for, and protected.

I dont even blame the pimps nearly as much as I blame the Johns, this industry would not exist if there was not some sick jack-azz wanting to have sex with young girls.
I even question the way some guys want their (adult) women to shave (down there).. thus making the woman look like a pre-pubescent child.. makes me wonder..
And something clearly went wrong in those girls young lives.. while some are abducted others are runaways because of poor home situations. It is truely a product of our society, a symptom of larger ills.
It saddens me to read such things and sickens my view of people (although I never did have a positive view of many to begin with)
Excellent link – lets hope people really do care.

This is a sad situation. I have to agree with B. Nelson that it is caused by sick and I mean men who want to be with young girls.

It’s shocking to know that this still goes on around us…and we live in a ‘civilised society’….apparently! Don’t forget, it’s not just men that prey on children too. There has been a recent high profile case over here where a woman was taking indecent pictures of kids at the NURSERY WHERE SHE WORKED!!!

Very good article Ruby.. It is a sad to know that the world as we know it can have individuals in it that are so selfish and self serving that they will do what ever it takes to satisfy their own self needs and desires as well as reap the rewards for the sake of doing harm to someone so innocent as a child.. God Bless my friend for informing us all – Princess

What a great article. It is really a shame that there are so many child prostitutes. Something really does have to be done to stop this. It could happen to anyone we know so easily so we should all do what we can to help prevent children from turning to prostitution.

The reason pimps thrive is because there are just so many sex maniacs out there. As long as they won’t stop, there’ll always be victims.

Sisters Louise Cleary and Pauline Coll are devout Catholics who have mobilised a small army of nuns from 10 orders around Australia. They aim to get rid of the multinational trafficking industry which is worth billions of dollars every year. The CIA estimates that about 50,000 women and children are smuggled into the US each year, mostly for sex work. The Australian Anti-Slavery Project says there are more than 1000 women and children working in slavery and sexual servitude. Excellent article Ruby..because people don’t have any real consciousness of slavery..it’s pretty hard to imagine that this sort of thing actually happens when you live in a stable social and political structure..by writing this article, you have raised/increased awareness..the thing about exploitation is that it causes trauma. The question for everyone that reads this article is how should we prevent this dreadful situation and what is the best way to deal with it…the death penalty for sex-slave traffickers and persons involved in child-sex trafficking sounds like the only solution.

Child prostitution on shows how sick is our society. It happens not only in the south world, but also in the north world. HEnce, poverty is not the only reason why child prostitution flourish.

Thank you my friends,You are much appreciated. Child prostitution is such a horrible thing I don’t think enough can be said about it.These little children that have their childhood taken away by these perverted animals who call themselves men.I would lock them all up and throw away the key. It’s a disgrace to any country who doesn’t do everything in it’s power to put a stop to it.

What a powerful article on a subject that is not written about often enough. It makes me sad, sick and angry, to know that children, little children are used like that. Those people that do it to them should be treated the same way they treat the children.Brillaint article, you certainly brought it justice.
