China Executes Two Men for Milk Powder Contamination
Two men have been put to death in China following their role in a scandal that involved introducing an industrial chemical into infant milk powder.
Two people have been executed in China.
The two people were executed for their role in a scandal that involved tainted milk powder. Six children died as a result.
According to sources another estimated 30 000 infants were ill following the contaminated powder which included melamine. Melamine is an industrial chemical.
According to State Officials, Zhang Yujun and Geng Jinping were the only two people that were put to death. However a further nineteen people who were involved in the scandal are currently serving prison sentences.
The two men’s deaths were after it was discovered that Zhang Yujan had endangered public safety means by selling more that 770 tonnes of the tainted milk powder. This took place between July 2007 and August 2008.
The other, Geng Jinping managed a milk production centre. He was found guilty of supplying milk containing melamine to a now bankrupt company by the name of the Sanlu Group.
Melamine is a chemical that is primarily used i the manufacture of plastics and also fertilisers. However if it is introduced to food products it gives a higher indication of protein content. The problem with regards to health is it can cause kidney stones or in serious cases, Kidney failure.
The bankrupt Sanlu Group was China’s biggest seller of milk powder. This was until the scandal broke out into the public eye last year in September. A widespread outrage ensued and Tian Wenchua who was the former Chairwoman of the Sanlu Group, was the highest executive charged.
Tian Wenchua missed the death penalty after pleading guilty. Her charges did not carry a death sentence but she has received a life sentence for her role.
The whereabouts of the executions were not disclosed but sources state they took place on Tuesday.
The two men who received executions earlier had their appeals turned down by the Hebei provincial Higher People’s Court in March.

It will be necessary for China to ensure that her products are safe if she is to continue to compete on an international level; She has been making too many mistakes the past few years. Here you alert us that she has taken quick action. However, I hope one day the United Nations agree to forgo the death penalty because it leaves open the possibility of dictators misusing it to destroy the lives of innocents. Life in prison is enough of a punishment. And at the end of the day political prisoners may live long enough to one day be free.

China is ruthless when it comes to such things.. They really need to improve their quality standards rather than quantity which they are already good at…

Interesting article…Executions in China are fairly common. Life in a Chinese prison would be no picnic either for the female executive.

I know of this story. But loved the way you wrote about it. The Chinese always go with exemplary punishment don’t they? No Chinese will ever dare do anything like this again.
