Chuck E. Cheeses Place for Missing Children

On two separate incident between hours of each other, two birthday children, one three years old and one five years old were left behind at Chuck E Cheese by a family of nine and a smaller family who heard about the missing child the following day on television.

Good Morning America television show reported that Chuck E. Cheese has become a place for missing children.  No, the children are not being kidnapped and withheld without the parent’s permission from the management staff at Chuck E. Cheese.    It is the parent who are carelessly forgetting their children and leaving them behind after birthday parties sponsored at the family oriented video game pizza parlor.   On the report on GMA, a birthday party of nineteen children ended with the birthday child being left at Chuck E. Cheese.  The parents were notified by a television broadcast the following day that their child had been discovered at Chuck E. Cheese.  It seems that the child stayed overnight at Chuck E. Cheese unattended until the following morning news report.

There is speculation about how a child could be missing at Chuck E. Cheese unbeknownst to the parents who arranged for what should have been happy birthday celebration instead of a missing child incident.  No criminal charges were made against any of the families that left their children at Chuck E. Cheese that has happened many times across the country.  The anchors of GMA reported that such as incident of leaving children at Chuck E. Cheese after birthday celebrations is inconceivable.  Chuck E. Cheese has a security practice in place of stamping both the parents and the child’s hand so they can find each other if there is a missed connection.

The panelist as a follow-up to the report on the television show The View offered suggestions to help parents remember to take children home from family restaurants, namely Chuck E. Cheese.  One suggestion mentioned by Barbara Walters is to place a nursery bag or child’s overnight bag on the seat beside the driver.  Such a gesture would remind the mother or the father that the child is either in the back seat or in the child safety seat upon exiting the car after a Chuck E. Cheese event.  But Joy Behar, another panelist on The View stated that the parents could forget the child even if these children related items were placed on the passenger seat.

Chuck E Cheese however inundated with children left behind because of forgetful parents can not be called the culprit.  It is the parents who are responsible for the children’s safety and bears the responsibility to see that they are not left at Chuck E. Cheese after birthday celebrations.  It is a mystery why these incidents of missing children keep happening at Chuck E. Cheese.  Either the restaurant could use a head count at the check out of birthday parties or start charging overnight lodging fees for the unfortunate children.  Parents should not be more interested in getting home and relaxing after the excitement of a child’s birthday party instead of making sure that the child is seated and headed home with them.
