On January 18, 2012 Wikipedia announced they would black out the English-language Wikipedia for 24 hours. The purpose of this black out was to enlighten us about the “PROTECT IP Act ” PIPA, and the “Stop Online Piracy Act” SOPA claiming that the if the Acts were passed by the U.S. House Of Representatives and the U.S. Senate that it, “would seriously damage the free and open Internet, including Wikipedia.” Many people agree to Wikipedia therefore the Government is going to have to find another way to get what they “need”; Money. The Electronic Frontier Foundation offers information about SOPA and PIPA at the link below.

On they New York Times website I stumbled upon a terribly awakening article called “What Wikipedia Won’t tell you,” written by Cary Sherman who is the Chief of the (Recording Industry Association of America) RIAA. If you go to the link below and read the comments you will be shown why the articles written on these such websites are full of lies and biases. One person who commented even said, “I stopped at the first sentence. “”The digital tsunami that swept over the Capitol last month, forcing Congress to set aside legislation to combat the Online piracy of American music, movies, books and other creative works, raised questions about how the democratic process functions in the digital age.” Really? RAISED QUESTIONS ABOUT DEMOCRACY IN THE DIGITAL AGE? No, it ANSWERED questions about democracy in the digital age. If you don’t realize that, you don’t realize anything about the digital age. Sheesh. What idiots these people are. And to answer your implied criticism of “those dagnabit whippershamppers,”", I’m 58. Go pound rocks in your next job, Mr Sherman. You obviously are incompetent at this one.” Many people see right through the media. What do you see? Clearly a new approach to cut our freedoms up even more are being measured. Did George Bush not emit enough unpatrioticness when the Patriot Act was passed?

One excerpt from this article stated as follows, “The violation of neutrality is a patent hypocrisy: these companies have long argued that Internet service providers (telecommunications and cable companies) had to be regulated under the doctrine of “net neutrality” because of their power as owners of the Internet pipes. But what the Google and Wikipedia blackout showed is that it’s the platforms that exercise the real power. Get enough of them to espouse Silicon Valley’s perspective, and tens of millions of Americans will get a one-sided view of whatever the issue may be, drowning out the other side.

The conventional wisdom is that the defeat of these bills shows the power of the digital commons. Sure, anybody could click on a link or tweet in outrage — but how many knew what they were supporting or opposing? Would they have cast their clicks if they knew they were supporting foreign criminals selling counterfeit pharmaceuticals to Americans? Was it SOPA they were opposed to, or censorship?”

If you ask me… that is completely hypocritical. Read the full “what wikipedia won’t tell you” article below.
