Cohabitation: A Choice or a Destiny?

The article is about Cohabitation. A rampant issue in our society. And this article will give insights of one of the realities in life…

People live with standards, dreams and other things in mind according to the aspects in life. One aspect includes relationships. Relationships vary in different classifications, reasons, and foundations. And there is this one kind called “Cohabitation”.
Cohabitation is an intimate relationship of people living together emotionally and/or sexually.  This kind of living arrangement is mostly relevant to couples who are not married. It involves nothing in terms of public commitment, future, and official declaration of love and responsibility. It is essentially a private and personal arrangement based on what satisfies them.
Moral values are very important at home to someone who grew up in a very conservative and religious family.  It lives up to the standard of no perfection but the determination to do what is always right and proper. And to commit a mistake or to break the golden rule is bound that should not happen.

Cohabitation is an existing reality in the society. Some would look at it negatively especially if the issue is about morality. Some would think it in a positive way. It really depends on how it will be handled. It is up to the couple if the ending will break lives and hearts or if it will only prove that it will survive and it will somehow be a stepping stone to everyone’s dream of a happy ending. It could be a process to learn or a brave action to commit a mistake and learn from it or a curiosity.

The issue has been a battle of arguments for the church, government, different organizations and even in schools but the point is that it is still in the individualities to decide if it is a choice or a destiny.  It compels to legalities too and brings so many cases to the world in all figures. It is still in the decision of every individual’s point of view because it is them who know their situation better than anybody else.  It is a fact that some marriages is a like a fairy tale of living together happily ever after, but it is also a fact that not all marriages survived that well. If to take a look in this world and observe, there are couples who got married but end up in misery and vice versa.

The long-term cohabitation is still rampant in every country.  Cohabitation is a form of freedom from the traditional values and oppressive structures.  And it seems to be a good way to have some of the benefits of marriage while preparing for marriage.  This is an opportunity to enjoy the advantages yet not to the demands and responsibilities of marriage.
It is a choice for one to get involve in this kind of relationship and not to mention the variety of reasons why is it so. One probable reason is to test compatibility or to establish financial stability before marrying each other. Some could not marry because the partner is not yet legally separated with the previous relationship while some are of the same sex. One of the reasons maybe is because they are in search for the ‘right partner’ or companionship. Other reasons could be avoiding lifetime responsibility or commitment, or they just want it to be a habit – a happy-go-lucky lifestyle. Looking on marriage as no freedom in doing what they want. Some choose cohabitation because they can get out from the relationship anytime they want without any legal interruptions or hassles.
Cohabitation, on the other hand, turns to be an awful idea to religious groups and moralists as well. They still believe in the power of the sacrament of marriage. A relationship blessed by God and it is still different.
The Church continues to encourage couples to marriage presented as the best and healthiest way for a couple’s relationship and for bringing up children. People will see the couple as legal in Law and legal in heaven.  Whereas, the effect to the psychological approach to the children is better than those children who still use their mother’s surname.
Cohabitation, according to some, is an unconditional commitment that has no security at all especially to the women while marriage makes the partner feel a commitment that will cherish each other for the rest of their lives. It is an assurance that no matter what happens, both of them has the right for each other in any means.
Anyway, many circumstances hide colorful possibilities, no matter how bleak the situations are. Judgment is not the issue but to be responsible in everyone’s respective acts and decisions. The consequences are always there if it is right or it is wrong. The verdict is on the last stretch so the people should only be very careful with their decisions or getting into something that will mean an essential part in their being.
