Color Your Cause

No, I am not wearing a pink shirt for your cause.

I am a supporter and contributor to the Michigan Citizens for the Support of Stem Cell Research. I am a supporter and contributor to Salem schools and Huntington Schools for troubled and ADHD children. I am a supporter of Progressive and liberal wings of the Democratic Party, and have supported and contributed to many affiliated groups. I am a member of EFF, which fights for internet neutrality and civil rights dealing with censorship and the unwarranted and illegal control and distribution of private information, as well as government violations against free speech. I am a supporter of worker’s rights, and I contributed and voted for Virg Bernero for Governor. Incidentally, my computers are Gateway, and I believe they were manufactured in the states, before Rick Snider took over, outsourced their workforce, and then cashed in by selling the company to the Chinese. I have loans out to fellow workers who were in hard times, that I am sure will be paid back…someday. :)

I have stacks of letters from my Democratic Congressmen and Senators, and have had correspondences from several media talking heads and activists from the conservatives to the liberals. I have friends who are of every political persuasion. I have friends who are straight and friends who are gay.

I don’t have to wear pink, purple, red, or any other color to represent my causes, because I have donated time and cash to most humanitarian causes.

Having stated the above, I do not have to wear my causes on my sleeve or use them to gain popularity. In addition, I think that it is tacky, and the time and money spent on flashy gimmicks would be more effective if it were spent towards seriously dealing with the issues of interest.

I am not rich, and I do not have a lot of time, so I usually support macro causes that directly influence the lives of every human being.

I do not play into buzzwords, catchphrases, memes, or ambiguous hyperbole designed to soften the issues and demean the cause at hand. I am not easily taken in by overused and meaningless terminologies like “The American Way of Life”, “Honor”, or “Freedom”. We are never truly free, and the greatest democracies were based on the firm foundation of slavery…and forcing Democracy at the point of a gun is just rude. :)

Further, every application that you use ()in a social network) relays personal information, and demands data space…therefore slowing computer performance and spreading information that is marketable. The data miners who use your information from your causes often do not use your marketable information to represent your best interests. Your post to end seal clubbing may be used to restrict the hunting practices of any number of Eskimo tribes; therefore freeing up their land for corporate harvest.

Your post against tuna companies accidentally catching dolphins may be used to restrict the archaic technologies of local fishermen, creating the demand for greater technologies   controlled by corporate conglomerates.

I like to think out my causes, limit them, and push for the path of least resistance for greater effect.

…and that is why I am not posting pink, blue, red, violet, chartreuse, teal, periwinkle, or any other specific color denoting a single cause at the expense of other causes.
