am 14 right now and my parents still give me the occasional slap in the mouth for back talking and i dont have a problem with it but for the parents who hit there kids i mean punch and kick that going way to far(abuse) but the occasional belt or slap will do your kids good makes them tougher cause looking at my older brothers and what they tell me its ten times worse in the real world

Princess, please. The line from discipline to abuse ends at the VERY BEGINNING of corporal punishment. Corporal punishment makes the receiver afraid and angry. It also impairs mental health, as I can say (I am a survivor of corporal punishment and developed a very bad mental health issue). And i hate my father for doing it. His “punishment” at one point was to hit me in the face for talking bad about his gf. I called 911, they did nothing. This is why there are so many school shootings in the south, where corporal punishment in school is used most (yes it is, Jonesboro, Pearl, Paducah, Littleton, and more all happened in CP states, and Mitchell Johnson even killed the teacher who paddled him). Teachers, put away the paddle, parents, put away the belt, and students will put away the gun.

One last afterthought, How many people here that support spanking children also support spanking adults? Probably not many.

Applying corporal punishment is a duty, spelt out in the Bible, from which we should not shirk. There is a world of difference between judicious spanking, paddling or caning, and wholesale abuse [which is not being advocated]. At my secondary school, I was on the receiving end of the strap, and also the P.E. slipper, but it worked for me, and I did not default again. My brother had an encounter with the headteacher’s cane, but he does not harbour any resentment, and he felt it achieved its purpose.
Of course regulations governing the use of such implements must be adhered to, but I feel strongly that tusing corporal punishment would eliminate many of the problems in today’s society.

Spanking has been there for milleniums because it works. I am not talking about beating or lashing out and hitting and if we are ever to have a rational debate we must separate these issues. Yes there will sadly always be those who are cruel to their children but they do not need the excuse of being able to spank to perpetrate their cruelty…………..no more does legal permission to drive a car allow someone to do so recklessly and drunkenly.

And its true there is fear associated with punishment. I know a mother whose teen girl was caught smoking in the street and stayed out for a long period because she was in fear her mother would tell her off. Her mother didnt spank. Being a modern mother she said she never wanted her child to fear her and gave permission for her to smoke. Children like all of us need to manage fear it will never go away even if the anti spankers succeed in banning smacking world wide.

NO, but at times it may be necessary

there is a major difference between DICIPLINE and ABUSE

one quick swat on the butt will get your point across but anymore than that is excessive

talking is always better

my parents spanked me as a child but never beat me so I don't see a problem with spanking my daughter if need be

I like your style of writing. Easy read. Corporal punishment may discipline a person but what about fear? I know of a person who had been discipline like this when he was still a child. He became a better person.. yes, he still respects his father… yes, but he feels hate and fear for him.
