Crime Fighting

An episode in my year and a half long career working as a security guard.

On Sunday afternoon, I did some crime fighting that actually felt really good. As you’ll notice I work in Security, well I work seven days a week for six hours each day.

There is this one guy who keeps coming into the store I work on the morning and steals stuff. He knows when I’m not working and before coming into the store he looks through the windows for me. As soon as he sees me he doesn’t come in; so has never given me the chance to catch him.

The problem with the times he comes in through the morning is that the cameras are shite. I have him countless times leaving the store with stuff concealed in his jacket but it doesn’t pick up what he picks up. This simply isn’t enough evidence for us to prosecute, or get him arrested so he was basically taking the piss out of us.

I promised the Manager and all the staff that I would catch the bastard, I was even talking with the Manager from the store next door and she said that they have been chasing him for months also; so I promised her I would get him.

For two days I came in to work at 8:30am and waited, and waited in plain clothes in the Office watching the camera on the entrance. Two whole mornings I waited and waited till mid day just sitting in a tiny room watching people walk into the store. There was no sign of him at all, so it looked like he was going to get the better of me again.

Then, on the Saturday afternoon I was having a conversation with a Police Officer and he mentioned the guy’s name and told me that there was a warrant out for his arrest.

This was the just motivation I needed, he didn’t have to come into the store or steal anything; as soon as I saw him I was going to jump on him and have the scum arrested.

At about half past eleven on Sunday morning, the Store Manager came over to me and said that he thought he just saw that guy. I glanced round and noticed it was the man I’ve been gunning for. Immediately I told him to call the Police and then walked out of the store.

He saw me walking towards him and started to move away, then tried to get on his bike but I started running so he then through the bike at me, which missed by a mile.

The guy wasn’t that far away from me so I caught up to him within a few yards, and Rugby tackled him to the ground and placing him in a headlock. He struggled for a bit, the Police had informed me that he can be very violent, and he was a drug user so to subdue anything he may do, I wrapped him into a choke. [[ I love my Judo days! ]].

Again he was struggling, then he started shouting that I was choking him, I leant over and whispered into his ear “if I was choking you, you wouldn’t be shouting, like this.” and then put all my weight on his neck. I’m surprised his veins didn’t pop out of his head, it was that tight but as far as I’m concerned it was necessary.

Then he kept threatening me that he was going to get his knife out, this wasn’t a risk I was willing to take so asked the Store Manager to stand on the guy’s arm to stop him from reaching for anything.

After a few minutes, which seemed like an eternity, the Police showed up. I had him pinned down in the middle of the road, so by now I had a lot of people stood watching what was going on as the Police picked him up.

Once again he threatened myself and the Store Manager, that he would come get us when he gets out, I simply replied that was fine, I’m here seven days a week, then he got bundled into the car.

Seeing him in the back of the Police car, felt great… it was all I needed and it actually made me realize that I actually like my job.

Before the Police drove him away though, they asked me what happened and I told him that he had stole stuff before, we couldn’t get what it was but I knew there was a warrant. Just then, the Store Manager from next door came out with a CD and gave it to the Police Woman, it was full of evidence of him stealing from their store… it was funny as fuck.
