Crisis in Care

An overveiw of the social care system for vulnerable young people.

Another weekend over Monday morning once again, the chaos of a crazy Casey action packed few days behind me. I brace myself for the crazy chaos of the week ahead. Bursting through the door my arms laden with books, files, bags filled with the essentials of my trade…Tea, coffee and biscuits ( I tried everything else and trust me this works, like a dream). It’s true a cuppa tea really does solve all the world’s problems. Oh ok maybe not solve ALL the world’s problems but definitely buys you time to come up with a solution! Oh yeah and those other essentials pens, paper and idea for the days learning point,  I ceremoniously drop my laden load on the table with a clatter, I stop sharp as I noticed the tear stained rather tired looking face of one of my girls.

“OOOOO.KKKKKK here we go another crisis awaits”. I think to myself as my eyes weigh up the fragile waive like youngster before me sitting in her usual place with her head on the table.  Her red tear stained eyes looking pleadingly right through me as I dropped my load.  Whoever said teaching was just going into class spouting about what you know about your chosen subject matter, reading a few books and lengthy holidays had clearly never worked in any of the education establishment I had! Ok so the long holidays are a definite bonus, but let’s face it there has to be something going for it as a profession.

“Hey KT how’s you”?  My heart sinking with each syllable wishing with all my heart I can fix whatever is making her so glum. Umm not always straight forward and if the look in KT’s face is anything to go by its telling me it’s going to be anything but straightforward.

A new wave of tears well in her tired looking eyes as she sobs, “they kicked me out again I had nowhere to go so I came in earlier when I saw the cleaner coming in”.  She paused, looked at me quizzically before asking, “Is that ok?”  She asked through the fast flowing tears streaming from her eyes, cascading down her face.

“Of course it’s ok”, I say as I try to process what KT is telling me.
