Cyber Bullying for Starters

There is many different kinds of cyber bullying, which is a crime that can even get you into prison.

What is Cyber Bullying?   Cyber bullying is bullying that uses communication technology for bullying others. Some examples include email, instant messaging, social friend sites, and texting.

Examples of Cyber Bullying:

Email -   Emailing threats to your inbox. This type of bullying is used because you get the email even if you don’t use the computer.

Social Sites (Facebook) -   Humiliating the victim, since all of your friends see the problem.

Instant Messaging/ texting -   The bully’s messages go straight to victim, making a big effect upon them.

11 students suspended for cyber bullying –   The students of McMahon, a Catholic high school in Caledon East posted not the nicest comments about the school principal on a Facebook wall. As a result, 11 students were suspended for up to eight days.

Was the disciplinary action fair? –   Suspension for insulting a principle seems fair for 8 days of suspension, and I believe they are lucky they didn’t get a bigger penalty. Any type of bullying can be taken to court, so hopefully the students learned their lesson and would never do it again.

Advantages and disadvantages of sites like Facebook-   Facebook is a great site, because it is a way to get closer with friends (check their pictures, chat with them), but it is also a site that is easy to bully on. Make sure the social site has restrictions, where you can choose who can talk to you or see your profile.
