Declaration of Martial Law Good for Filipinos

The article is about my personal wishes as to how reform Philippine society.

A declaration of martial law over the entire Philippine archipelago could actually be the best thing to ever happen to Filipinos. We do not deserve the freedom that our forefathers died for and for which our soldiers daily dedicate their lives. The youth, on whose shoulders the hope of the fatherland was pinned by Dr. Jose Rizal himself, has totally abdicated its responsibility. They have become so corrupted by the things around them that they simply do not care anymore. When I actively campaigned against cheating in one of the colleges at a Jesuit university, a young professional told me why should I bother when everybody cheats anyway. It is painful but I know that he is right because during every Youth Assembly election, cheating is very much a part of it and it is very unfortunate that not a single youth ever complained about it. The few who are politically active are actually not motivated by any personal benevolent purpose or sense of patriotism but by an alien ideology which seeks to destroy our democratic ideals. If our elders are elitist, the youth are of the extreme when it comes to politics. They believe that a good resume or credential will bring salvation to the country, ignoring the fact that we never had an uneducated person for a leader since the birth of our republic. And what about the rest of us? Well, everybody was excited about the past election not so much because they saw somebody who can steer the nation towards greatness, rather they looked for someone who can personally help them once elected into office. Everybody complains about corruption and how others are so immersed into it, forgetting the fact that he is as much a part of it as the person he accused of being corrupt. The government is corrupt because we as a people is corrupt. Most doctors are hostage to the aggressive marketing activities of pharmaceutical companies and they see absolutely nothing wrong about the practice. Many lawyers would consciously rape the canons of the profession in exchange of a few pieces of silver. Even judges would indiscreetly seek favors from politicians in order to get that much coveted promotion, throwing all scruples to the wind and compromising their independence. And our teachers would willingly do the bidding of their bosses in order to be always in good graces of the latter. Even ordinary employees would not hesitate to do their worst so they can gain advantage over their peers, completely ignoring the injustice of their acts. And the drivers, boy, oh boy, a specie most undisciplined. We can blame it on the bureaucracy which literally sells licenses even to the completely incapacitated. Corruption actually has now become a virtue. And yes the church, what about the church? We saw the spectacle of twenty two priests celebrating mass for former President Arroyo as a prelude to her filing of her certificate of candidacy for congresswoman, and again being ably defended by her staunch supporter, the unabashed Cardinal Vidal. It is really a big puzzle at how discordant the voices of the church people are. The litany of woes simply demonstrates a breakdown of discipline and I have yet to mention criminality. A radical intervention is the only option left, as a matter of fact, in order to restore discipline and self respect. Where right after EDSA 1 we were the envy of the world, now we are the pariah. A declaration of martial law is at least the less painful option than a revolution. And who is against the declaration of martial law anyway? Well, judging from the various reactions to the declaration of martial law in Maguindanao, the loudest protestations came from those who are obviously going to lose their fiefdoms, the politicians, who are warlords themselves. Martial law will definitely render them irrelevant. Why even the MILF is not alarmed of the declaration. The politicians will wildly proclaim our loss of freedom but since when are we really free when they always shamelessly rob us of our freedoms. I have been all around town the whole time since the declaration of martial law in Maguindano and aside from the politicians, I have yet to hear a person complain. Maybe they, like me, realized that a state of martial law will finally rid us of all the rotten politicians and all the scum of this part of the globe, that it will actually be very good for the country. The leftists will definitely rise in protest but no one should ever have the illusion that if these people will have the chance at governance, that it will be democratic, or that the rightists will be respectful of our human rights.  This is our chance, our country’s chance at redemption, let us grab it!
