Devil Boys…reflection of a Sick Society
A personal comment on why our children maim and murder.

Recently in the uk, the latest scandal in the media is the acts of violence, torture and warped sexuality perpretated by two young boys on their victims. Predictably, the public and media are confused, bewildered and angry at the fact that two so young could carry horrific acts that belie their tender years. The sad fact is that like many similar cases, the boys were reared in domestic circumstances that were not conducive to how a child should be brought up and was fequently termed as ‘horrific’. Interestingly enough, the boys showed no remorse or concern as they were led away from the court with hate filled exclamations from one of the victims’ mothers ringing in their ears. Of course this case has highlighted humanity at its worst and society at its most apathetic and incompetent and the usual round of accusations were let fly at social services, the parents and any other scapegoats that could be found. It’s understandable that society at large should do this….simply becasue WE as society…have no real answers as to why horrible things crop up and when perpetrated by our young we throw up our hands in horror. Every society in this world is populated by ‘flawed’ imperfect human beings, all with differing moral and ethical views, different values and mindsets, different aims, goals, hopes and dreams. Some are willing to work hard at attaining these, some take the ‘easy’ but dangerous route of stealing, cheating, wheeling and dealing and or exploitation. When we have an ‘open’ society where individuals are encouraged to ‘do their own thing’ that’s fine, providing it harms no one else, the problem is, everything is within our reach now, fast food and junk food that is cheap…our kids may grow up bingeing and end up seriously obese. Our teens have easy access to drink at the corner shops and there’s always someone who will purchase alcohol for them…so they may end up alcoholics..same with drugs also…its the availability problem, then there is our leisure pursuits, the internet, the tv, magazines and newspapers are filled with sex and violence, doom and gloom…barely anything positive there! Now…I don’t believe in heavy censorship in public and private life…however, when things that don’t help our children are too freely available we have to do something to regulate who should be able to access them. Unfortunately, parental guidelines in films and the tv watershed don’t work and kids still see stuff that is totally unsuitable for their age range. But we have to realise that every society is populated by “individuals” and as such is hard to get universal consensus on a range of moral issues and topics, because eveeyone has a different opinion on things. For one parent, certain films may seem innocuous, for another those films may be deemed unacceptable for their child. In every moral debate there will never be consensus on all issues. Bringing it back to hte present issue, it is truly sad that two children’s lives have been scarred by their peers in such a horrible and evil way, but as much as I feel sympathy for the offenders and their terrible upbringing if it could even remotely be called that, it does not negate the intensity of the evil that “they” perpretrated to their fellow human beings and as such “they” not the parents…committed the crime, therefore “they” as young as they are are still morally accountable to the public and deserve their punishment and probably an even more harsh sentence!!! The parents, however, must be made accountable too surely, for it is they who seriously failed to instill any moral values whatsoever in their children by allowing them to view films totally unsuitable and see things that should never have been witnessed within the walls of any family home. Therefore, one must ask the question that dare not be asked of any ciivilised society….dare we introduce eugenics for those deemed morally bankrupt or not intelligent enough to bring up a child in an atmosphere of love and support…is enforced sterilisation the answer? I strongly suspect not, because even in the most loving and supportive homes, have societal “monsters” been bred. It must be genetic predisposition toward evil then in a certain section of the populace??? Who knows…none of us is God!!! Unfortunately, I believe we will always have to battle evil wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head in our society and deal with it as humanely as we can, even if that means extinction of the person no matter how young they are, because it is my belief that although not everyone is evil or acts evil all the time, it is a cancer within every society that needs removed…however, I am not naive enough to believe that doing away with evil individuals cures the problem, because no sooner have we gotten rid of onerotten apple than others, sometimes worse appear. I’ts alright to talk about the balance of the cosmos…yin and yang, light and dark etc…but quite another to live with constant evil in our midst!
