Devotion for Tuesday, 17th January, 2012

"What a charming verse is this! It dwells not with those who perfectly keep the law, for where should such men be found? but with those who love it, whose hearts and hands are made to square with its precepts and demands," so says Treasury of David Commentary. When we love God’s teaching and laws, God makes room for us in His heart. He also delights in us and it is easier for Him to grant our desires.

Do You Love God’s Teaching?

Text: Psalm 119:165 – Those who love your teaching will find true peace and nothing will defeat them (New Century Version).

To be a victorious and remain the same, you must have the antidote for victory, which is the word of God inside you (Matthew 4:1-11). You must think it, act it, believe it and you will have it. How much do you love God’s word? Do you study and meditate on it? When you study do you believe it or you take some part and feel the rest is not possible or that is for someone else? The Psalmist knows what the word of God can do (Psalm 119:11, 105).

Treasury of David Commentary says “These men (those who love the law of God) are ever striving, with all their hearts, to walk in obedience to the law, and though they are often persecuted they have peace, yea, great peace; for they have learned the secret of the reconciling blood, they have felt the power of the comforting Spirit, and they stand before the Father as men accepted. The Lord has given them to feel his peace, which passed all understanding. They have many troubles, and are likely to be persecuted by the proud, but their usual condition is that of deep calm — a peace too great for this little world to break.” This promise is not just for people who confess it with their mouth rather it is for people whose lives conforms to the law in absolute obedience and faithfulness.

What do you need? Is it peace, wisdom, power, protection, success, etc? The solution is in the word of God. Many live and die without fulfilling their call and achieving the purpose for which God brought them into this world because they fail to live their lives according to the word of God. When we love and obey the word of God, we will have peace and He will add other things for us. Many today are depressed due to stress, anxiety, and uncertainties of life. Minute things easily put them off. God tells you today that His peace will be your portion this year on the condition you fulfill Deuteronomy 28:1, 2. You should give heed to the word and apply it to your daily living. Do not allow the word of God to depart form you (Joshua 1:8). Study it; meditate on it (1 Timothy 4:15, 2 Timothy 1:10) and nothing whatsoever will defeat you. Love God’s word and forever be victorious over sin, the devil and the world.

FFT: What can give true peace on earth?
