Discouragement
Not discouraging those who try.
All children can draw. The reason why most stop is;
“What’s that?”
“It’s Uncle Herman.”
“Uncle Herman isn’t green, and what are those flipper at the end of his legs?”
Discouragement, even in a casual manner, is often enough to end a venture.
With children one has to be very careful not to use the authority of adult to discourage. Many parents are overprotective and become limitations on their child’s potential. Many teachers discourage children from pursuing their dreams.
One of the easiest patterns to recognize is to imagine children playing a game, and playing it wrong. To step in and attempt too radical a correction would discourage. Tiny alterations can be accepted as long as they are not blatant.
In the article concerning the religious group, had the ‘pious’ lauded the preservation of the religion and slowly sought to bring it more in line with standard practices there would be not confrontation.
