Do You Do This?
Stereotyping.
I did an honors project for college. I conducted research about stereotyping, the physchology of it, and the reasons why it may be wrong, but others still do it. Stereotyping has many fine lines that are effortlessly easy to cross whether it be intentional, or we racially or otherwise profile people into preset categories based on weight, skin color, their job title, their place of residence, and so on. I also circulated a student questionnaire, and it may surprise one to know that on the Cape and Islands the issue is plummeting to new heights, and becoming a serious problem. An English professor of mine, whom I admire told us that a lesbian couple at school who shall remain anonymous out of respect for their private relationship was not served at a breakfast diner because the waitress was on to them. A student submitted the open ended part of his/ her questionnaire, and had wrote about an instance where the student and some friends went out to eat at a family style restaurant, and the family moved to another table because they were offended. I feel that I am a crusader against any kind of stereotyping because it is inhumane and can often lead way to hate crimes. Dr. Laura Schillengser has a radio show speaking out against hate crimes brought on by taught ways of thinking.I can not tell you how many times my heart broke hearing all of the derogatory language towards others and each other.
