Does Great Britain Rely Too Much on Oil?

A short article about Great Britain and the ever rising oil problem.

There are many people who groan at the names Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall simply because they have forced our eyes to open to the reality of what we are putting in our mouths. They have made us more aware of where our food originates from and the need to improve our shopping habits. But have these new chefs got deeper intentions in mind?

The vast majority of people living and working in Britain rely on the use of oil to support their normal day to day routine. We often take this ‘black gold’ for granted, forgetting just how much we as an independent nation rely on it.

We use it for our cars and lorries, vehicles that transport our live stock and food supply to farms and local shops so we can purchase dinner with ease.

Britain is very close to a food shortage due to oil become more expensive by the week. Oil prices have risen at the beginning of this year and have continued to rise. We see this terrifying evidence every time we pop into the service station to fill up and our pockets have suffered much.

But is it time to panic?

Probably. But we are being given new resolutions each day which could delay or maybe stop the coming crisis altogether. By becoming more self reliant and using food resources intelligently, which in other words means taking a few steps backwards to enable us to move forwards.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, we as a nation seemed to have taken up a bad habit of becoming lazy in regards to how we eat and how we live. By growing our own and baking our own bread not only are we saving money but saving petrol because the less food we use the less food we need in our shops.

Our country has been abused enough this past decade by government which doesn’t really care for it. Making it feel like a small thump from the hammer would send the avalanche crashing down, leaving us no better off than a third world country.

Food is something which is precious, again another thing which we often forget. Imagine going to the shops and finding nothing there for a days, or even a weeks? Chaos would ensure, our cupboards seem to empty quickly enough as it is but when there’s nothing to replace what we use and no way to replace it anytime soon then people will descend into panic. Starving children living off whatever their parent’s can find them, people fighting over a rotten fig. It’s an all too plausible future for us.

Oil isn’t a recyclable resource, it will someday run out and by that time we as nation of intelligent people need to find another way to live, to carry on our everyday lives and if that means going back to a more laid back and hands on lifestyle then so be it, because the alternative is too horrific to even contemplate a plan B.
