Very interesting and well-written article. This topic really needs to be addressed. I also agree that views on what is domestic violence or not may differ.

Another type of abuse is spiritual abuse which I have been a victim off in churches and was in a Christian cult. I need to write an article on Spiritual abuse which is also swept under a rug. If we continue to write on these topic people will become more aware. They can do nothing if they don't know about it, that's why articles like yours are much needed. Thank you.

I appreciate this article. It is good to know the history of abuse. I wrote an article on domestic violence in the church. And what I want people to do is stand up for those who need help, in this area. And stand up right now. Immediately begin to do all that is nessasary to help and let go of personal shame. When we are ashamed and stigmatize others we damage so many people.

We must rediscover our humanity. Some folks think I am tough on people but I have been abused physically and mentally. Thank God for Jesus, because that was a living hell.
I don't want anyone to suffer this way and I never mince words.

Every is stuck on the fact that God is love and that we should tip toe around these issues. But that is not true. We need to educate people and speak out. Urging others to show the love of Christ by firmly stating the issues and calling people to repent from allowing domestic violence to continue. The laws need to be tougher too. DV affects men as well as women.

@QuinMonty86,
I am so sorry you had to experience this. I am glad you had the courage to leave. You are a strong woman. You did what it takes to leave an abusive relationship and it sounds like you did a wonderful job raising your boys. God led you in the right direction. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Blessings to you,
Chris

Chris,
My first marriage was a nightmare of emotional and physical abuse. 30 years later I still bear the emotional scars. My husband and his twin brother watched their father abuse their mother and so the cycle continued on both myself and my sister-in-law. I got out before my son was born or it might have continued on through him. I married a wonderful, loving, caring man who raised my boys as his own. They both are in loving relationships without the threat of violence ever rearing it\'s ugly head.
It takes a strong woman to break away and a strong support system to shelter her and keep her away. Thank God I made a better choice the second time around.

this is quite a well-researched writing, and a very informative one. i believe that domestic violence aren't rare in the past. it's just that it's only now that people are more open to discuss it so more cases are reported.

Thank you Nathan. Another reason for people reporting such as by-standers in not so much as wanting to help but some report because of noise level which they consider a "nusence".
