Domestic Violence: Can It be Stopped?

This paper is about people who are victims of Domestic Violence and people who hit others, some people can change and others cannot. Nick beat up Caitlin, and he had to go to court and has to go to group. Nick made his mistake, and he is paying for it by going to group.

On page 251, Mario talks about how he is like one of them, someone who used to beat up their girlfriend. How he lost his girlfriend by pushing her in front of a car while she was pregnant, and how he lost her and the baby. Nick thought about it and knows that he doesn’t want to turn out like Mario, and push his next girlfriend too hard. On page 253, Nick tells Mario that he wants to re-take the class, because he knows that he can do better in the class. That’s why I think Nick will change, because he wanted to retake the class, and made he decision on his own. Plus the fact that Nick gave Mario his notebook. Nick’s whole point of hitting Caitlin was to get control and that’s what most abusers do to get control, hit their girlfriends. I know that the relationship between Nick and Caitlin was all about control, because when Mr. Zabin gave the presentation on domestic violence he explained control to us.

Due to the fact that Nick wants to re-take Mario’s class again, this proves that he wants help. Other people who are abusers might change, but it depends on who they are and if they are willing to help their selves change and get help with they’re problem. In some cases most hit their girl/boy-friend because they want control but instead they make it go to far, and the relationship is ruined, so some want to get help and others don’t think that they need help. I think that changing is a hard step to take but it’s possible to change.
